FS: 84 528e Burgundrot/Schwarz -SOLD
Time to let go of my '84 528e
VIN WBADK830XE9271539
Burgundrot Metallic
Schwarz Leather Interior
122K miles*
Prod. Date: 1984-03-01
Automatic Transmission
Clean AZ Title
The car was originally from the Bay Area where I understand it was repo’d and left exposed to the elements for about 1 ½ years at a yard. Then the previous owner (PO) had it for the next 2 in which I believe his only goal throughout this time was to flip it for a profit. I’ve owned the car now for close to 2 years and all I’ve done is to give it loads of love and spend money in it to try to bring it back a decent and reliable shape. I have over $ 3,600 in receipts.
The car is very reliable, engine, tranny & brakes work great and run smoothly. I would feel comfortable taking it for a road trip. In fact, I just recently took a round trip to San Diego for St. Paddy’s Day e28 meet with no issues whatsoever. I also dove it to Phoenix from San Jose when originally purchased. I am pretty much daily driving it right now since my e60 has some issues pending to get resolved so it can pass the emissions test
*The Odometer worked on and off when I acquired the car. I replaced the gears a month or so after and it’s been working fine ever since. Total miles might be off by a few thousand more or less. I believe I have driven the car for a total of 10k miles since purchased. Cluster works well overall but gauges can be flaky.
This is pretty much a stock car, somewhat neglected circumstantially before my time (repo’d/PO years) but at the same time unmolested. It has original engine, tranny, brakes, suspension, etc etc.
The exterior paint in general looks great but it is not the original as it was resprayed at one point by PO. Respray job could have been done better since not only dings were left unattended but tape job was also done very poorly. The badge was also repurposed and glued poorly on the wrong side of the trunk (which explains the sanding seen on pictures). Needless to say, the trunk will need to be resprayed at one point.
All wipers, high/low bean lights, brake lights, reverse lights and signals work well.
It has e38 rims with new Continental Extreme Contact DW tires. I’ve put about 3k miles at the most on tires ever since purchased on Oct. 2015. Tires alone cost a little more than $500.00 installed.
The interior is in good shape relatively. Manual seats show some wear, back seat headrest area is not perfect. Dash is cracked but covered with a dash mat (included w/car). Carpet is in great shape overall. Headliner has a “<” shape tear by the back rest area but other than that it is in good shape. All power windows, sun roof and rearview mirrors work fine. AC is cold but might need to be recharged at one point (especially if kept in the scorching hot weather of AZ). Heater works well. Windows have never been tinted from the looks of it. Radio is inoperable but speakers and power antenna are in perfect working order. The driver side back door panel is missing the bottom carpet like fabric and the ashtray enclosing (I am trying to fix these cosmetic imperfections here little by little).
Windshield has about 4 less-than-an-inch in size cracks, biggest one shown on one of the album pictures.
Very importantly, the car does not leak any fluids and doesn’t seem to have any rust issues.
All this has been replaced during my ownership:
Thermostat

The comments there are, for the most part, unkind. And unfair, IMO.

Bring a Trailer is worthless and has run its course.

The commenters are really the issue. Every so often someone knows what they are taking about but the vast majority spread dumbass assumptions as fact. I used to have the energy to correct a lot of that garbage but it's too much now. The very guy who says they're scraping the barrel auctioned off a totally trash heap E30 M3 shell with nothing at all and here's a car that seems honestly represented getting panned. See what $2800 gets you.

I couldn't agree more with you guys... First of all, someone on there says they checked out the car personally, blah blah when in reality not one person had checked out the car personally up until this very morning for the first time. A gentleman whom I had spent a good while yesterday on the phone going over the car in detail drove this am from Orange County to check it out personally and with the intention to buy. After a throughout inspection and some test driving, he decided to make it his own and we made a deal. He is probably on his way back to CA at this moment.
From what the new owner mentioned, he's got a few 3 series and had never been here. I talked about all the great support one can find at mye28 so we might hear from him later...
About Bat, At first I was surprised and kind of glad they had done the article but then it was very disappointing to read all the unsupported bs comments. Oh well, talk is cheap, specially on an anonymous basis...
Anyway, i am sure "the roller coaster car" as my 5 year old would call it is in good hands now.

Congrats on the sale! I am glad it went to a good home.
When the guy I sold my 533i to put it for sale, it made BaT and all anyone there cared about was the fact it had gold-centered BBS wheels. Car was garbage because of that. Couldn't believe it. The right guy ended up with it in the end, though.

Thank you Chris.
It's sad but the good thing is that in the end smart buyers see thru that crap...
