FS 1987 BMW M535i

Hello all.

First time on this forum. I'm a VW guy and I spend most of my time with an r32. I recently had a chance to purchase this beautiful specimen and from what I can tell and through my research, it seems to be in the 90 percentile as far as M535i's go. Anyway I have a massive folder of pictures I can upload/email upon request.

This car is the DC89 (LHD catalyst, automatic): 1,140 produced from 03/1985 through 09/1987, only produced within Japan. I have the original manual and guide enclosed in a silver laminated case. It looks as if it was made yesterday. The prior owner of this car was a member of the Tanaka BMW Club and as you can tell the car is in fantastic condition. The car will be at my doorstep on the 24th of September. My reason for sale is that I have my eyes set on a Porsche 930. The car has just under 110,000 MILES and will receive a full tune up upon arrival. Aftermarket bbs rims, stereo, kill switch and a couple other engine parts.

VIN decoder lists the moon roof and the OBC II and that is it. I guess one would need to know the standard options on the M535i to know what this car contains that is not listed. Since the asap shows it as an M535iA, I'm guessing the SA codes didn't need to show the automatic. Odd.

One thing I have noticed on several Japanese market cars is that the HVAC fan switch looks to be infinitely adjustable, like the E24. Probably seen photos of five or six official BMW Japan E28s. Given the reliability of the E24 setups, might not be an upgrade.

Also, I'm not asking for any trolls or keyboard warriors. If you have nothing good to say, then why say it at all. I've seen beat M535s sell at 11-14k with way higher miles. I believe that last beater I saw was in Pennsylvania a month or so back. I know it's an auto. Swap if you want. Otherwise, someone out there will eventually be looking for this. I did not buy it to flip it. Although I knew my value would be held safely within this car. I found a '91 930 I'm dying to get into. If I don't sell, I'll GLADLY keep. This is a rare car that in 10-15 years will be a hard specimen to find. I threw 16k out there because my 14k offer was immediate, before I even though about selling it. If I don't get near my asking price, I will still be a happy man with a great car at the end of the day.

You really need to put some work into this car to get to the $15-16k level. It is a nice car, but I hope you paid under $8k for it.

You don't get to dictate the terms of the responses when your FREE advert is your very first post. If you have a 14k offer, you should take it! It's a nice car but needs to be completely gone through and then still isn't a desirable drivetrain. Plenty of better cars have sold for less. This isn't the place to find a naive buyer. Try Autotrader.

Sorry I got to go out on a limb here and risk looking like the dolt I am but, Mr Kohler, If you are scared of Japanese cars does that mean your scared of US 535i's. Or is it you just don't like the lower HP engine? I'm curious. It is after all the engine most of us have under the hood. I eagerly watch for the events I think are going to happen to the price of this offering! Never a dull moment on MyE28

Thx Kyle, OK I get it. Sorry a bit slow. I have noticed alot of the cars from Japan just don't have the 'loved' look to them. Not to mention the odometer irregularities!

I would take no more than 2hrs (if that) to correct all these small thing instead of fixing them with tie-wraps or autozone parts....

Thanks for your advice but the market isn't formed around what you think, it's formed around what people will pay and what they are looking for. I bought this car because I have the money and I wanted it. If I don't get what I ask then I'll keep it. Pretty simple. I guess there are naive buyers on this forum according to you... But I appreciate everyone's constructive criticism and notes in regards to these Japanese cars.
