**SOLD** 17 x 8.5 Forged Fikse Profil 5S, E28 Fitment

Post by Tifoso »

I am selling my Fikse wheels. These were built by Fikse for my M5, specs are as follows:

17 x 8.5 all around (square setup)
ET 13mm offset (2.5" lip)
5 x 120 mm
race satin finish

They are forged and very light and strong -- weigh about 17 lbs a piece.

I only have a few thousand miles on these, and they are pristine. I never drive the M5 in the rain or during the winter months when there may be salt on the ground. (Yup, I'm anal like that....) Perfectly straight and true, no curbing or scratches, polished lips are beautiful. As you can see from the photos, they look amazing on the E28. Fitment is slightly aggressive but works. My car is pretty low on Spax springs and I did have to roll the rear fenders a bit to avoid occasional rubbing. They don't rub at all now, even with 3 passengers in the back. I have included some photos showing how the wheels sit on my E28. Please confirm fitment on your own vehicle before purchasing.

Wheels come as shown, with center caps but no valve stems.

These were $2,600 new. Asking $1,800 plus actual cost shipping within continental US. Let me know if you have any questions. You can PM or send me an email at carminetomas at yahoo dot com.
Thanks!

Carmine

Yes, 225 tire.

FYI to all who might be interested, I put these on ebay -- auction bidding starts at $1,450 with no reserve, so there's a chance to get these for an even better price! Here's the link:

Those are not ugly wheels. At all.

If I had any desire for > 16" wheel on an E28 I'd be interested. GLWS!

I came very close (twice) to putting the minimum bid in on these. I do really like them.

Agree - these are epic wheels for a dark colored E28. Shocked that they're still around.

Thanks for the comments, guys! These wheels definitely look great on the E28 body style.... Still available and boxed up and ready for a good home! :)

Nice. Fikse produces top quality wheels, and your price is very reasonable.

I'd be serious about wheels in this size/offset if only they'd fit without having to roll the rear fenders.

I have rolled fenders with even 16 wheels with slightly under 20 offset. I see no issue with doing that. I understand it is a modification, and more or less undoable, but it is just bending a non visible pinch weld/seam out of the way of the tire. I am certain most E28's that are "omg it looks so good" photos have many permanent modifications such as custom speakers, rolled fenders, etc. On a scale of one to worried on the permanent modifications list, I'd put rolling rear fenders just barely registering on the scale. I also heard that M5's have rolled fenders from the factory, but I never owned one so I don't know. All I am saying is - it's not much to worry about, fender rollers (services) on Craig's List are available for cheap and they come to you and have dozens of cars of experience if you don't want to buy a roller like me, and these wheels are ultra sweet light and high strength and I would say having wheels of this caliber are far more of a + than the tiny perceived - by doing something so minor like rolling a fender.

Really want these wheels, but of course I am out of the running.

I gave some thought to having my rear fenders rolled when I first bought my E28 and decided against it. There are really two things that concern me most (besides the fact that it's an irreversible modification to what are now becoming classic cars):

One is the trauma done to the paint while the seam is being rolled, and the effect on its long-term durability after the job has been done.

Second is accelerated corrosion; it seems to me that a rolled fender seam would trap dirt and moisture much more easily, and be very difficult to clean.

I have also read that M5s came from the factory with rolled fenders, but that a special rolling and rustproofing technique was used.

As for searching Craigslist for somebody to come to my house and roll my virgin fenders? Uh-uh. NotGonnaHappen. Others can do it to their cars; I'll watch.

The guy I paid to roll one of my cars fenders heats the paint up to around 140f and seems to do good work. The paint inside perhaps is all crushed and messed up. I didn't look. The outside was nicely done and the rolling is done relatively progressively with increasing pressure. I rather would have my BBS RZ wheels not rub. The buyer didn't complain at all and the car looks stock. But then again, I currently have a 650.00 E28 535i with shot paint as my current E28 and I would do just about anything to that car and enjoy it. I think E28's are meant to be driven hard all the time and enjoyed. For me fender rolling enhanced my driving experience a lot due to wheels not rubbing with multiple passengers at around ET15. Commence with the multi hour fender detailing however, I am sure it will help resale and battle corrosion! I'd rather blast the fender with some fluid film or paraffin wax once in a while and keep playing with my E28 :) BTW The Craig's List guy has a wheel business and buys and fixes up cars for sale and seems to be doing well for himself. Meet a lot of different types on CL, he is a good guy. In Seattle, his name is Chris and business I recall is Euroaddikts or something along those lines.

Larry, your comment made me realize that I should clarify what I meant when I said "roll" the rear fenders. I am very careful and particular with my car and was very concerned about the same things you mentioned. When I had the occasional rubbing in the rear that I described, I asked my shop only to ease the fender lips slightly -- but only as much as they felt comfortable doing without ANY risk to the paint -- to see if that did the trick.

If the original lip was at 90 degrees to the fender, they eased it to maybe 45 or 50 degrees. This is not a full roll where the lips are pushed flush against the fenders. They also sealed and weather proofed the back side so that I don't need to worry about corrosion. Just that slight easing of the fender lips resolved the issue -- no more rubbing.

One other point that I mentioned in the ad but it is relevant here -- my car is very low on Spax springs, so this rear fender lip modification would not be required on a car that has a higher ride height....
