Not necessarily, the Bilsteins can work well with the M5 springs.GaAlpinaOwner wrote:research has determined these are only decent with Boge struts and shocks that were oem....
Mtech Red are much better although they are somewhat undersprung
Why would you say the M-tech reds are somewhat undersprung? Compared to the M5 springs?

Sorry my mistake, the OEM M5 springs are slightly undersprung the MTech Reds are around 263 rate from what I am being told.
That rate is incorrect.GaAlpinaOwner wrote:thanks for responding -cgraff wrote:Not necessarily, the Bilsteins can work well with the M5 springs.GaAlpinaOwner wrote:research has determined these are only decent with Boge struts and shocks that were oem....

Sorry my mistake, the OEM M5 springs are slightly undersprung the MTech Reds are around 263 rate from what I am being told.
However, the spring rates are basically like so:
Softest: stock 535i / US M5
Medium: Euro M5, and with a slight decrease in ride height, as per automotive literature at the time, of roughly 10-15mm
Stiffest: M-technic springs, with a decrease of approximately 1 inch over the stock 535i and US M5.
Both Euro M5 and M-technic springs come in a variety of lengths and/or rates to count for different options on the cars such that the result is a more similar ride height.

I want to caution against generalizing the name of coil springs and shock absorbers. Users must be explicit in stating the full names and part numbers of parts because there are many versions of "Bilstein" absorbers, "M-Tech" coil springs, etc. this is how owners have ordered the wrong parts. In this case, "Bilstein" refers to the B8-Sport version and many OEM BMW coil springs are not suitable to be used with these absorbers.

From what I've seen, you could in fact use both the Bilstein HD or the Bilstein Sports on the euro M5 coil springs (there's 3 different front spring PNs). It's in the 'grey' zone with regards to the metric that Bilstein says which is for "shortened" springs; although personally I'd probably use the Sports. The M-tech springs (2 different part numbers in front) should be used with Bilstein Sports, not the HDs. They can be paired with the BMW Bilstein that was also available and matched to those springs.
EDIT:
I note you mentioned discussing this offline. That is fine. If I discuss this any further it can only be offline. Needless to say on these forums information has to be more generalized.
