Instant e28 Touring?

Post by davintosh »

Anybody know anything about these add-on touring caps?

I was browsing through the Facebook e28 group & saw a video posted there; his car is sporting one of these caps.

I asked a question about it & he replied that it's a German-built aftermarket item that goes on & off in about 5 minutes. He didn't give any more info on it, just that they are rare. I would imagine it's like the fiberglass caps you see on pickups and El Caminos.

It doesn't seem like it would be very useful with the trunk lid in place. Still very cool though.

Nowhere near pretty enough for me to buy. If an E28 touring ever shows up at an auction, I will fly out to bid on it.

Also, I have no intention of giving up my blessed rear corner visibility. That's one of the greatest things about E28's.

I was thinking of the round windows you used to see when custom vans were big... Or like the Pinto Cruising Wagon. ;)

But seriously, I'd be surprised if that fiberglass cap weren't available with side windows, just like you can order a pickup topper with or without side windows.

It looks like someone just hacked up a camper shell. :?

Not a big fan of those looks. I could seriously get behind one of em done right though.

That is something I would buy just to say I have one. Then maybe take pics every few years and start and uproar for a few weeks.
