As far as I know at this time, I'll be the only one for sure doing the fuel pump mod.Bav Ace wrote:I'll be there....
Obviously this is late in the game since the "tool-a-thon" is on Saturday, but if anyone is planning to make the fuel pump mod please let me know. I apologize for the tardiness of the information and I guess it would have been good of me to post some details on the options available. At this point, there are two (see below). If you are interested pm or email me and I can answer any questions that are not addressed in the mod post.
Option 1: in-line pump delete, 8mm (5/16”) injection hose (user supplied) from tank to fuel filter
Option 2: in-line pump delete, 12mm (1/2”) injection hose (user supplied) from tank to 1/2”-5/16” fitting
I know of several others that are stopping by, but not for the FP mod.
See you Sat...

A long, yet fun, day.
My hat's off to Brian for his work in design and machining prior to his 90 mile drive down.
Due to some necessary conflicts, attendance was limited.
By the end of the day there were 5 of us.
The burgers were tasty, and accompanied by the , supplied the fuel we needed to keep going, to the end.
After it was all said and done two E28 ///M5's escorted Brian about halfway back to Bryan via a few back roads.
The fuel pump mod worked flawlessly.
Here's a pictorial of what was done on my E28 ///M5:
What came out;
What went in;
Clicking over here will give you a few more details about the build.
No people or car pics this time.

Thanks to Sherman for hosting. I was glad to meet some new people and sort out some minor issues...the least of which was the front end shudder. The escort back toward Bryan was an extra treat and felt almost like two fighter jets escorting a blimp.... ... ... It all went smoothly till I was solo and made a wrong turn. What's an extra 40 minutes lost on the back roads of central Texas?...An opportunity for more fun!

Whining Fuel Pump
So was dropping the lady at work today and heard a whine/hum coming from the rear passenger side of the car. Car is/was driving fine and got me to work. Immediately got on the forums to diagnose...from what i'm reading it sounds like a fuel pump issue.
Yesterday the car had less than a 1/4 tank of gas and WASN'T making any noise. I filled up yesterday on the way home, didn't hear the whine, but it did show up first thing this morning when the tank was more full.
The fuel filter was replaced 18 months ago.
Based on what I've read, primary opinion seems to be that diagnosis of the inner pump seems to come with less fuel in the tank. Using that logic, is it safe to assume this is the outer pump?
Thanks.

Only you and God know how hard you work your fuel pumps but if doing RTT with you over the last four years is any indication , I know they get a work out... A lttle extra pressure cant hurt.1st 5er wrote:You normally won't hear the in-tank pump fail.
Contact Brian, Bav Ace, he's the builder.
I'm now running this setup in three of our cars.
They have survived long distance road trips,
and many short trips inbetween including both RTT and TexFest torture tests.
I'm a satisfied customer.
