Tedfest 2012 Recap.

Post by Ted in T.O. »

Well under much pressure from a few people I have finally got around to recapping Tedfest.

As far as I can tell from the comments of attendees at Tedfest this year it was a huge success. There are a few people that deserve honorable mentions here that played important roles in this event being a success. First off I would like to thank Bruno for putting the website together while he was on vacation in Paris,France. After countless hours and emails back and forth between Bruno,Eddie and myself we created a new web page. Lets not forget the 6 hour time difference here either. Then I would like to thank Eddie for the hours he put into designing the flyer,t-shirts,ballots,site layouts and trophy logo designs. Then we have Lou who took the bull by the horns and volluntold a bunch of friends that they were helping with the Tedfest staging of the cars. He also enlisted five new sponsors to help with the cost of running this event. Craig who footed the bill for all the pizza's on the Friday night's dinner.Bruce Kennedy for doing up the marker signs and the Tedfest 2012 and 2013 window stickers.A big Thank You to Peter Raposo from Innovative Millwork Solutions for the Porketta and Picanha he BBQ’d along with Manuela for everyone on Saturday night. The endless number of friends that went way beyond friendship to make salads and desserts for the BBQ, purchase and hand out chocolate cars at the BBQ, friends who donated prizes that they won and graciously donated to the event. This is what Tedfest is all about. People who go way out of their way to make Tedfest what it is today an event for the people by the people. You all know who you are and the Tedfest Team thanks you.

Now on to the highlights. I got up at 530 Friday morning to find Squirly sleeping in his car at the end of my driveway.
Image

Went and picked Craig up at the airport at 7AM and ran some errands with him. The Americans started showing up around 4PM to start with the fun all the while the construction crews were still trying to clean up the street for Tedfest. They finished at 7PM 6 hours behind schedule.

The Friday night party lasted until 130AM.

Saturday morning came pretty quick with 3 people waking me up to go jogging with Duke at 6AM. No I did not go with them.

Then we procceded to breakfast with a volunteers meeting at the Daylight grill to prepare for the day ahead of us. Killer PM and Nicki dropped by the restaurant to join us for breakfast as they were heading out to Ottawa.I left my camera at home but I managed to take pics with a friends camera in the afternoon.

It was very hot so we decided to pick up dinner there and go back to my house to eat. After that we went over to Kims pool to cool off and have a belly full of laughs and memories that lasted till 230AM.

Monday night Brandon headed home in the dark to keep kool. Ali and Hunter left Tuesday morning after I kicked them out because I had to go to work. Sorry guys. Ken,Melissa and Hanna left Tuesday morning to spend a day at Niagara Falls.

Firsts for Tedfest this year:

Two parrots instead of one last year.
Four Harley riders dropped by to see the BMW's of which they owned their own BMW's.
Two Z1's
19 sponsors generously donating prizes and funds to support Tedfest.
Two pool party's lasting well into the morning.
A record 154 cars which is up 30 from last year.
Unsolicited volunteers who gave their time and contributions to make the event what it is.
A table set up to collect donations for the Princess Margaret Cancer Hospital on behalf of my neighbour who passed away from thyroid cancer one week after Tedfest 2011.
Ted Dancose Memorial Trophy handed out for Best of Show selected by the entrants.
24 cars from the US showed up.Give yourselves a pat on the back and thank you for the strong showing.

I would like to thank the sponsors for their support. The volunteers who gave their time and resources. Finally a special thanks to my family who gave up their beds to Tedfest out of towners and a loving thank you to Dianna my wife for putting up with this sickness of a marque called BMW. This was a spectacular long weekend for me and everybody that participated. It will be a tough act to beat next year but I'm confident we can at least equal that.
In closing Tedfest would not be where its at today if it were not the people who came to have fun, meet new friends and of course to look at the those beautiful machines called BMW's. Thank you for bringing them and hope to see you next year. Oh ya Newbies are always welcome EH!

A BIG THANX FROM THE TEDFEST TEAM!!!

Wheew 4 hours later and I'm goin to bed. :alright: :wrenchtime:

PS if you have any links of pics from Tedfest please post them on this thread. Thanx in advance.

Ted,

Thanks to you and your family as always for making me so welcome in your house. I really look forward to flying out each year and meeting the "eastern" car nuts - new and old. Right now I'm sitting on the ferry to Vancouver Island after an almost 10 hour, 1000 km drive from Calgary (I know it's slow, 500 km of two lane mountian road seeking spots to pass trucks, trailers and motor homes). Thought about everyone who drove up from the States and how trouble free this year was, fortunately it was for me today too. Hopefully the second 1/2 of the drive to Portland will be equally uneventful.

It was an incredible gathering filled with great times and a lot of laughter.
I finally caught up with some old friends while meeting new ones. I don't think it gets any better than that! :alright:

Big thanks goes out to Peter Raposo from Innovative Millwork Solutions for the Picanha BBQ you cooked up for us and Manuela seasoned along with the famous Porcetta that was absolutely delicious.

Guido, you are the pancakemeister. Sunday morning breakfast was a real treat. Thank you!

Here are my pics from a fantastic day with great people along with their fine automobiles.

A big thanks to everyone that voted for this old E12. It is an absolute honour to be presented with the Tedd Dancose Memorial Trophy. This was truly a special moment in my life. There were so many fine examples in attendance and at the end of the day, we are all winners for keeping this special marquee alive.

I’d also like to thank my Dad who’s always been a gear head and teaching me to keep my head strong with the challenges in life. He officially retired the day before Tedfest last week and I hope I continue to make him proud with his old sweetheart. Hats off to you Dad!

I saw adam today and he is still smiling about that watch.

I cannot say enough times, thanks to Ted and the entire tedfest crew. I had an excellent time at the show and meeting so many awesome people. The hospitality still amazes me! Waiting until next year when we bring more cars and more people...

Any way to get some of that killer pancake mix from guido?

Such an awesome event. I assure you, no one would need to eat a squirrel with all the awesome food available.

I had so much fun, I really didn't want to leave.

How many motorcycles showed up this year? Were motorcycles part of the overall vehicle count?

I think I saw one in the background in a pic. Can't seem to find it now. As noted in a previous thread, missed this years Festival because we were on bike trip in Eastern Ontario.

But I have fond memories of last year. Here's a pic of Ted greeting me and my R100 GS. The expression on Ted's face is priceless.

The trip was fantastic. It was nice to see that you and others were able check out the City on the holiday Monday. RTT guys are planning to make it to Ofest.

I was annoyed that I could only stay for about an hour but just walking around and seeing the amazing cars was worth the quick trip.

I was in awe of the vehicles there. Especially the Alpina cars.
The e9 blew me away and makes me want one so badly now!

Anyway, here are some of my photos:
