Hello, may I get help with a problem similar to this ? I don't know how to explain, and I don't even know if it's the same as posted by "Ruffian"... but I prefer to write here, rather than open a new thread. Anyway, problem is that my car "hiccups" too, when I'm in 2nd and 3rd gear and I don't fully push the pedal... there's smell of petrol inside the car and, when the car is cold, the needle of the rpm meter goes up and down, up and down, until it gets warmed up.
My mechanic says it could be the flowmeter or the fuelpump, but he's not sure... could you help me please ? I don't even know what to search on Google, apart form "my car hiccups"

You will need to open a new thread so as not to confuse this one.AndreGolf4 wrote:Hello, may I get help with a problem similar to this ? You don't listen, do you?AndreGolf4 wrote:Come to think of it, my garage is very very wet... imagine, my old car seats got musty...
Anyway, I'll check, thanks... my idle is also very low, about 600 rpm... Does my 1984 520i have the J-tronic or the Motronic injection system?
You should go back and "cut" out your original post and then "paste" it into your own thread.
I know you don't want to end up on Kyle's sh*t list, permanently.

Man, I'm talking about serious business and you freak out about crap ? Are you crazy or is this some kind of welcome committee????
Why should I open a new thread when this one talks about the same issue?
Did you ever read the Forum FAQ?? It says you can't open a new thread if someone else has already opened one about the same thing... so, get yourself informed before talking nonsense.
Now, learn respect and get yourself useful, if you have the wits, otherwise buzz off, please.
I seek help, not rudeness.

Same to you.
Actually, they're trying to help you get the answers you're looking for. No need for you to try to dictate our rules to us.AndreGolf4 wrote:Are you crazy or is this some kind of welcome committee????
Well, you have a different car with a different motor, different engine management, and your problem presents differently. Other than that, yea, they're EXACTLY the same. (sarcasm)AndreGolf4 wrote:Why should I open a new thread when this one talks about the same issue?
It says no such thing. Link to where it supposedly says this?AndreGolf4 wrote:Did you ever read the Forum FAQ?? It says you can't open a new thread if someone else has already opened one about the same thing... so, get yourself informed before talking nonsense.

To AndreGolf4;
We aren't trying to be rude to you, we were only trying to get you the proper help. The OP has an 88 535 and you are working on an 84 520i........ could be completely different causes with the same end result. This is the best 5 series forum for keeping these old cars running and you should not be so easily offended. To get along in a forum you must get along with its members.
Edit: If you do a little damage control now it could lead to some friendships.

It runs L-jet. Mechanical dizzy under the inlet manifold? I had a 520 which would do this, turned out to be a cracked distributor cap which would open up when the engine was warm, throwing out the timing and allowing moisture inthere if it was a rainy day.Check your ignition components as well as the fuel system.
