Cool Pic of an E28 with an E60
Just thought this was a cool picture I took this weekend of my '84 533i with my friend's new '05 530i in the background. Enjoy!
and another shot of them side by side...

MY E60 has about much in common with the f'ing Grand AM or G6 as your E28s have with them. Quite frankly, the sculpted lines of the hood resemble those of the BMW Z3 (another awesome car to drive). Now I can see why Jim@dashop wanted to take a sabbatical from this Forum; what a bunch of jerks some of you can be to other folks! The new E60 is an awesome car and if you're ever lucky enough to drive one, you will understand. Even Wombat agreed it was the best thing he had ever driven and he owns 2 E28s and an E46 330ci. Your snide remarks are juvenile and uncalled for as Wombat thought the picture of his E28 in the foreground and MY E60 in the background was kinda cool. It's nice to see how some of you are quick to condemn others.

Whoa!, Dude. Chill out. Randy and Tim were not attacking you or your car as is clearly defined by the little smilely faces at the end of his post and if you knew Randy, well we won't go there. All they were saying is that they don't care much for the new body style. This has been an ongoing debate for a long time with Bimmerphiles.
By the way, I think the pictures are cool. A nice contrast from old to new. Where in Richmond do you guys live? I haven't bumped into you or seen either of you yet.

My apologies to you all; just under a lot of work related stress right now. Guess I was a little touchy about the comparison to the Grand Am as a good friend of mine had one and it was the car from Hell! It was affectionately known as the "Devil Car" or the "Spawn of Satan". I'm sure there is a picture of it in Webster's beside POS.
I live in what is known as the Near Westend (off of Monument Ave) and Wombat [Randy] lives in Bumpass. We both work in the Innsbrook area for a well know credit card company (What's in your wallet?) -- correction -- we used to work for that company before being outsourced to IBM & Unisys respectively. Whereabouts are you?
Cheers ~
Rick

I am just across the Huguenot bridge on the South side in Stratford hills. There are several others here on the board that live here in Richmond. We'll have to get together sometime.
Oh, and you can bring your Pontiac too.

You're just a few minutes from my house. It would be great to get together sometime for a meet & greet either on your side or my side of town. BTW ~ the Pontiac is G-O-N-E! Randy & I convinced our friend to buy a Toyota Camry a few months ago - something reliable but yet not too "fancy" or "luxurious" in her opinion. :p She wanted another G6 [read as "new" Grand Am] but we both told her she'd be crazy to do so after the Hell car!

Whoa indeed...sorry man. Didn't mean to raise your ire. I was only pointing out the
stylistic similarities between the two in the front valance (i.e., kidney-style grille
openings). Obvisously I cannot equate GM with BMW on other parameters. NO offense
meant toward your friends e60. I have driven all versions of the newest 5er except for
the ///M5, which I'm not likely to be able to do...ever I actually like the cars
...very plush, relatively good build quality, smooth handling, taut ride, good
power, etc. Nice cars but a far cry from your '83 533i and e28s in general.
Beginning with the e34, 5ers began to take on an entirely different quality
in terms of the driving experience provided its owners. The post-e28 5ers
are BIG, HEAVY, PLUSH cars that just aren't in the same category and
are catering to an entirely different market segment. Again, the new
5ers are very nice cars. Hell, I have an e39 Sport 5spd and love it as a
road car but I would never consider autoXing it, for example,
as it is TOO HEAVY. It is fun on mountain roads but I feel it is a bit underpowered
and is generally a numb driving experience...the equivalent of sheathing an e28
with a condom and a strap on dive belt...me thinks
Best,
Tim

All is fine on my end! I had a '97 E39 528i and a '93 E32 740i both of which I traded for the new 5. The E39 was a great touring car and I agree it wasn't something you'd want for autoXing. I liked everything about the car except for the amount of horsepower and pick-up; it was definitely underpowered. Now maybe an E39 ///M5 on the otherhand..... My 740i was just tired and ready to be replaced. The new 5 is kinda a combination of the two different [older] BMWs as it relates to size and amenities but much more technologically advanced. My salesman told me that he already had 2 new ///M5s sold before they are even available to the public. Wonder how much of a premium they had to pay over MSRP?! I doubt that I will ever own one but will definitely make the attempt to test one some day!
Cheers ~

I think the e60 is the least offensive of the Bangle Monster Works products,
but it's still an ugly hump-assed Pontiac lookalike. And don't even get me started on i-Drive...
That's my opinion of the car, it isn't a personal attack. This is a car forum, we talk about cars here. Cars
we like, cars we don't like. No one said your hair was ugly or your ass was too big, so why get your
panties in a bundle? I don't think Jim decided to check out because someone criticized a car -- he was
disappointed about personal attacks. Like calling people on an e28 board juvenile for not liking the e60. ~_~

Well, it's pronounced Bum~pass with a french accent. No, I can't lie to ya, it's pronouced just like it looks and it's just as much of
back woods kinda place to boot. Named after the head of the railroad, John Bumpass, from times past. Nothing but country,
30 minutes from Richmond and very affordable land. 5 acres for just 20k. Not bad. There's another county named Goochland not far
away, not much better.
