Well, so long as "tapatalk" inserts a spam line with every post a user makes, I am not inclined to install it when we move to an updated phpBB forum version.

Also, I didn't know the phone app was commercial. I'm a lot less interested in installing out of principle...

I made this same post about a year age when I first got my iPhone. But seeing as I'm posting from my iPhone now, I don't think it's necessary. Safari works fine!

Yes, as I said earlier, the mobile browsers as a whole (on all platforms) have gotten so much better that a mobile version of MyE28 shouldn't be required at all. We run a really simple layout unlike some of the vBulletin powered sites.

If someone's having problems, please let us know. I know it works perfectly on iOS and Blackberry devices because I've tried it from borrowed phones.

My Android loads this forum just fine. I just have to push the "Log In" button every time but I can do that.

I hate to wake a sleeping dog but...... Coming from bimmerforums I really miss the ease of accessing the forums via a mobile app. Accessing the forums via a phone and a browser for those of us constantly on the go is clumsy and stale. I'm not bad mouthing the mye28 forum at all. I just think the forum would clearly benefit from a mobile app. Check out BF's app - I've used it for we'll over a year and it is lean, intuitive and just plain fast and simple to use. This is one of only a couple forums that doesn't offer app access. It's kind of like a store that isn't set up to take a debit card.....

I'm not bad mouthing the forum - it is awesome - I dare even say better guidance than even BF.

What mobile browser are you using? I've used mye28 on iOS, Android and BB phones, the only one it doesn't render well on is BB but I wouldn't expect anyone to cater to such a small market share when it comes to forum use.

I'm a frequent browser on my droid (DNA) as well. The website does seem to work fine, but I do agree that a Tapatalk option would be great. It looks like they only support phpBB 3.0 shown here and I'm not sure what code we are running here. I'd be happy to help if it's compatible.

Ive used safari, Firefox, opera - the rendering isn't the problem really. It's just that any forum can be streamlined and much more user friendly in a mobile format - I'm am NOT talking about a mobile version of the site but rather a taptalk like app that makes it easier to interface with on a small phone. I am not pushing bimmerforums at all but download their app from whatever marketplace your on and give it a whirl - the experience is night and day for the guys using their phones.

Unless you're volunteering to code, test, and continue development on such a thing, that dog's not likely to twitch. We don't have the resources of a site like Bimmerforums.

As things sit at the moment, what you're asking for isn't in the cards. It might be in the future, we shall see.

Tapatalk doesn't support our version of phpbb, so until we move to 3.0, it isn't going to happen.

I kind of assumed that when I seen the "Powered by phpBB © 2001, 2005 phpBB Group" at the bottom of the site. If/when it does convert, I don't think it would be much of a hassle to implement the Tapatalk plugin. Again, I'd be willing to help if/when the time comes.

Tapatalk is probably out. Justin and I both strongly dislike how it adds "I like to touch myself! ___ via Tapatalk" to every post even if the forum buys a (quite expensive) license for a branded app.

The Forumrunner software that Bimmerforums uses might be a possibility. A license isn't cheap to get our own branded version, but we'll see what our options might be once we get to that point. The reviews on Google Play aren't very favorable, but most of the bad reviews seem to revolve around them buying the app only to find that their forum doesn't support it.

If we could buy a license and charge a small fee on Google Play/ Apple Store/ MS Store to offset the license cost, that might be an option. I'm not sure if any of the players allow anything like that, however, and having a presence on any of those online "stores" typically involves paying a "developers fee" of some sort. So again, added costs.

Why is it even necessary? This site is fantastic on my mobile device and on the POS Android phone I had before. I hate mobile sites in general, so this works great.

Just say no.

In what way? There's only 12 subforums here. Of those, most users probably only regularly visit 3 or 4. I don't know how you could possibly have issues navigating.

There are advantages to a mobile app. The text formatting is easier to read and more consistent, the buttons are easier to hit, usability in general is better.

This site does work well on mobile devices in general, but the dedicated mobile apps generally work better still.

I'm sick of apps. The ones for websites usually suck worse than just going to the site. An exception may be Amazon.

That said, chrome on my android makes this full site hard to read. But, I've tried them all, and chrome has the least amount of bullshit that I'm willing to put up with.

I think that is something a board administrator can disable now, at least I remember seeing a control for Tapa talk signatures.

I wouldn't push for it if it created additional burden on the site owners unless the users were willing to pick up the cost and burden. That being said.

You're not forced to use the app. I have a membership on VWVortex and the Tapatalk app.

I use the app for most of my mobile use on there but for some reason, they've not enabled the search function. So if I need to search, I use the mobile browser on my BB.

My experience on the site with my BB Bold has been less than fantastic. When I open the site it renders very small text, I can zoom in but any pictures or long links, maybe signatures cause the amount of it will zoom without having to scroll right and left unpredictable.

I've also used an iPod and iPad and agree that it reads fine there, the zoom when necessary is much more predictable.

However, I would think, I'm in the minority of users that visit the site on such an archaic device, which is why I'll suffer through it. But if you do go an app, you've got at least one user standing ready.

Is it worth looking at this again provided the forum code is v3 or later?

I can confirm that there is no cost for the php plugin, there is a free version of the client and the signature can be turned off, ie the "I like to touch myself! ... **************I'm too dumb to turn off this annoying signature**************" or the signature can be personalized.

I have to squint to see the font or zoom and scroll all the time, and yes I wear glasses as well. For me tapatalk resolves the bad eye sight issues.

I understand if this is an emphatic no and if it is I'll keep quiet.
