WANTED - Zero issues E28 M5
Prefer LHD Euro model but will consider U.S. model with 100% accurate Euro conversion. Vehicle must be in perfect condition and requires no mechanical or cosmetic work, of any significance. I am looking for something like the E28 M5 that prizefighter has or better. Contact me via e-mail only.

He hasn't been around in awhile. I sent him a PM here - over a month ago - regarding a specific Euro M5, and he never opened it. Could be a simple oversight though. I hope he returns/is still around. He is an asset to the community.mooseheadm5 wrote:You should try to contact RCBMW. He should be able to help.
Best of luck with what you seek, OP.

You should give Enthusiast Auto a call... they have one (owned by a current Mye28 Board member) that they haven't advertised. It's a low mileage, exemplary example (I saw it when I stopped in on my way to TX). Just a thought.

Thanks, will do that today. Have just sent them an e-mail.

UPDATE -10:28 AM EDT
Talked to Eric Keller and they may not be selling that M5, no decision yet. But, they have a couple of other E28 M5s that they're working on and he will let me know what comes of that. Thanks, again, Roy for the tip.

Yup, that's about what its come to, in terms of finding one. I am at a point now, after 4+ years of looking and my 528e now sold, to simply pulling the plug and looking for something else. The 2014 M3 certainly has my attention, plus I would be starting over again with a new car, treating it just as I did my new 528e. I really like that idea, but maybe too expensive. We'll see.rvnmaniak wrote:As an e28 M5 owner ( a pretty good one, most say,) you might be better off posting:

Unfortunate that the e28 M5s went from super cars to just used cars obtainable by those who refused to properly maintain them. Now, we're left with sorting through the junk. At some point, their value will probably result in more full restorations that (for a price) will make well sorted cars available again. [/quote]

Well I'm calling them out. I want to know who the new owner of this beauty is.

Had you prepared yourself enough to watch it drive away, Rod?

I know the new owner and I can not wait to see the car. It will be joining several other bimmers including the owners E34 M5 my E30 M3 and both my E28s (Alpina and M5) and a Landrover D2 Trek. As well as a bunch of muscle cars at our storage facility/Independent shop. I am sure he will come join this community with a little enticement, surely I can help facilitate this. He and I take our cars to local car shows here in the Atlanta area. He is a True Enthusiast! Rod you sold this car to a person that is ultra meticulous to say the least. She will be in good hands for sure. And the Storage Facility host one of the communities best BMW Factory Trained Technician's for older bimmers....my friend and my technician.rodpaine wrote:Yes, I am sure you would.unt0uchable wrote:Snip... David
Well, it looks like I've been called out.
Yes, I'm the new owner of Rod's e28. And as Rod and David mentioned I do have a couple of BMWs - one specifically that a few members of this forum know quite well : http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=106105&highlight=
However, this is really about Rod's e28 and how I ended up with it?
I saw Rod's post last Wednesday morning and couldn't PM him fast enough. Rod and I exchanged several emails and we had a purchase agreement in place in short order. After that, Rod put me in touch with John McWilliams; BMW CCA NCC Concours Chairman - who has known Rod and his e28 for over 10 years. Mr. McWilliams was extremely complimentary of the car and rates it as one of the finest 'original' e28s on the east coast. After that call - I drove to my bank as fast as I could, got a certified check, walked across the street to a local branch for Rod's bank - and deposited it into his account. Done!
Did I bother to have a PPI? Seriously? Have you seen Rod's web site?
Clearly this is a special car, not only because of it's condition - but also because of the ownership story behind it. Not often do you come across a car of any make that has been so thoughtfully and expertly maintained for so long by the original owner. Add to that - the fact that Rod documented the maintenance with such detail - and then shared it with the enthusiast community - and it really is an amazing story.
And for those that have only skimmed through Rod's web-site marveling at the engine bay pictures, you should really set aside some time and read through some of the finer details of Rod's approach to maintenance. And when you do, you'll really begin to understand what sets this car and owner apart from the rest. Here's a couple of examples:
"All electrical power and ground connections, including switches such as for the power windows received their once every two years cleaning and preservation, September 2012, which is approximately a 30 hour maintenance job involving Caig Labs DeoxIT contact cleaner and SHIELD products. There was no evidence of contact oxidation, since my last electrical service performed February 2010. (my background includes 9 years as Associate EE and Engineering Technician for several aerospace firms, heavily involved with electronic circuit fabrication, maintenance and calibration, so I am very comfortable and experienced in working on electronic circuits and discrete components)"
Or,
"Reducing the wear that our drivers seat experiences can be accomplished by swapping the passenger and drivers seats during their lifetime with us. Here is some info on making the swap. This is the third time on my E28 and along with proper cleaning and treatment, it's why my 30 year old (as of Oct. 2012) leather seats still look great." The process is documented here: http://www.mye28.com/tech/rods_pages/id14.html
And it goes on and on. So it goes without saying I'm excited and can't wait to get the car here to ATL - but at the same time I have mixed emotions about taking this car out of the only environment it's ever known. People, this car has been with the same loving owner in the same garage for 31 years! And now it's going to be picked up by an enclosed transport and taken away. It's sad in a way. But it's my intentions to provide it the best of care in it's new home in ATL.
As David said, we have a really good setup in ATL and the car will be in good hands and in good company. I know this car means a lot to a lot of people - not the least of which is Rod. We'll do our best to keep it properly maintained and properly exercised so that's it with us for another 31 years.
