Just M30 Pics - Post pics of M30 Motors

Post by tig »

As part of rebuilding an M30B35 for installation in Vlad, I'm looking for photos of M30s. Both to help me know where things get connected and to get inspiration for painting/tidying things up.

I searched for a motor-only photo thread and didn't find one.

Post pics of yours or other's M30 engines.

Let's keep it to M30s only please.

Links to other pic-heavy engine threads are OK too.

To kick it off, here's Vlad's current motor.

I'll add a few more to the M30 gallery here. OC Coupe is right, engine bay projects and detailing have no "end" - there is always more to do and things in there "that could be cleaner."

Photo credit on the the first two goes to Tom Schultz. The dark, lousy one that follows is my own work.

Damn Jim, I had no idea.
Your engine bay is stunning. You are also the only one I've seen with a three ridge power steering reservoir cap in ages.

I think I'll change my name to OCD Coupe.

I'll have pics of my Coupe engine build soon.

I guess I never made it a point to show you my 533i.

Image

There was a good reason though.

Also, this M30 seems to have come with the three-ridge cap, too.

And this guy.

Interestingly, My M535i didn't come with one.

Here's mine, although it is nothing special. Just evidence of a pampered 25 year life. Dusty with some dirt here and there as mine is original condition. Has a bit of patina unlike the restored ones in this thread ;).

Need to do something about the red plug wires, though, as I don't like the way they look plus they don't fit into the OE cable tray. This car will see a turbo at some point, so I will likely detail under hood with the engine out at that time.

I do have a three-ridge fluid reservoir, didn't realize they were uncommon. The filter box lid is different than on the other 535s I have owned, though.

Very nice, Justin. My Zinno car has a light coating of dust on it as well from a pampered life.

Thanks, it really is pretty good for a driver (although I don't drive it much).

So far I'm the only one with a Shawn D. washer hose tee & check valve.

Looks like a dry, Southwest vehicle :)!

Ah, so is the difference in power steering reservoir caps (three ridge vs four ridge) where the white caps were used? I just assumed mine had a white cap when new, but it fell off 20 years ago. Maybe the three ridge caps have the "coin" type threaded top nut, and the four ridge lids use the white caps?

So many subtle differences in these cars over the years.

This car also has the 3-spoke PS cap:

This is the '85 M535i from a few years ago. It's still a work in progress:

Nothing to write home about regarding the cleanliness:
