Front section of headliner / overhead panel

Post by e28Sean »

Before i do something stupid and headache inducing, i gotta ask... is the forward section of the overhead removable, independent of the rest of the headliner, and without having to remove Big Things, such as the sunroof assembly, etc... ?

I am referring to this part, the black part w/ the check panel, sunroof controls, and sun visors:

I ask because the vinyl (?) on mine has started to fall off, and i'd like to re-glue it before it gets worse.

Thanks!

Yes, it comes down without much difficulty.

I very briefly toyed with the idea of peeling it & recovering it with the same material i used on the door panels. Having it off and having the lighter colored headlining going all the way forwards made the interior feel more open and airy.

That said... for now, i'm just going to re-glue the factory black vinyl-like-material.

Remember above, where I mentioned the temptation to use the same material i used on the doors?

I'm glad you did the wrap. Looks much better than boring black.

Thanks!

I still have a bit of trimming and gluing to do, but, it should be back in the car by tomorrow afternoon.

I'll continue to post pics as I go.

For anyone still following this:

The panel, nearly done:

The wrinkles have all been smoothed out, and it's in a climate controlled space setting up right now.
