Living with a Legend ///M5: Year Seven 02/10/20
In preparation for euro conversion:
All the way from the Netherlands. And the euro bumpers came all the way from Bulgaria. I got a few bits and pieces left to acquire (euro tail, bumper strips, clips) and then off it goes to the body shop.
Few more months to wait... meanwhile another ///M5 is coming to the stable, so I am getting ready for that.

Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
The last bits for the euro conversion where ordered ///Monday. The bodyshop is already notified, and fingers crossed towards the end of August there will be some fresh Eye Candy all in preparation for TexFest aka. LoneStar Burgers & Fives VI
Got my original M-Tech I steering wheel redone while visiting Bulgaria, so that will go back in the car along with the OEM wheels.
Meanwhile, the refreshed stable.

Pavel is the appropriate care-taker for this car.

I think we share similar taste in vehicles, especially for the W463!!!

Here is some pictorial update of the progress on the euro conversion so far. This turned out to be a really big project (especially the rear end) but it will be done right, and that makes me happy.
As soon as my buddy Todd (Crossroads Collision & Restoration) cut the old rear panel we stumbled on some issues. The euro tail wasn't lining up the same was as the US one was. There was about an inch of a gap or so. Turned out there is a slight difference, due to the rear subframe rails for the US bumpers.
Lots and lots of rust. Just a new euro rear tail didn't do the trick. I called a good friend of mine. The driver's side was even worse.
Thanks Sherman! I can't put a value to your contribution on this build.
As of last weekend:
Stay tuned, my friends..

Update as of yesterday:
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Pavel,
Looks great. Lots of work has gone into that one. I'd better get to work on my rust bucket.

Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Wow, surprised about that rust after you pulled the old rear tail lamp panel.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Well it might not have been the same rear tail panel installed in Germany in '87. My buddy Todd thinks the car has been in a collision in that area before, possibly a pass side impact which involved replacing the panel. But the job wasn't done very well.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Finally some updates - painted. The car should be back home Monday (fingers crossed). It definitely took more than expect, considering that TexFest is coming up, but I know it's done right. The bumpers are painted, waiting at home to be mounted.

Looking good Pavel! Support from friend's and local enthusiasts such as Shermo certainly helps.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Well the car is back home. It took a while. But the results are definitely very satisfying. I know... where are the pictures...
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Well, here it is. Everything is put together, redid my rear shifter bushing, the shifter cup and the reverse light switch. Dropped in a fresh TRE 255 LPH fuel pump (thanks for the help Sherman!)
Some quick cell phone pictures (HDR )
Proper pictures will start surfacing out during TexFest VI. A nice wash and vacuuming are pending.
And then we hit the road!

Outstanding!
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
I will definitely work on refinishing the original wheels and see how that look goes.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Now that's looking pretty sporty! Makes me think getting the rest of the euro bumper parts for mine is the way to go.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Wow. Just wow.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
I've always been a fan of a stock M5, but that looks awesome. Well done.
Re: Living with a Legend ///M5: Year One
Yeah Chris, I always had second thoughts about doing this conversion. But as my dad said on the phone to me on Sunday - "Congrats on the new car!" (rather sarcastically), the car completely changed.wkohler wrote:I've always been a fan of a stock M5, but that looks awesome. Well done.
Already started parts hoarding for the new project
Your's is more like 80% there, right.dsmith wrote:Now that's looking pretty sporty! Makes me think getting the rest of the euro bumper parts for mine is the way to go.
