What did you do to your E28 today?
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Weighed it. 2660lbs, half tank of gas, no driver.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
I pulled out the eta today and took it on some errands. Noticed I've only driven it 1300 miles this year. Such a joy to drive an e28 that feels about 3 yrs old.
The left rear door was removed at some point and not shimmed correctly. I shimmed it right and now it lines up and opens/closes perfectly.
Then the family went on a walk, so I put in my new BMW injectors too.

Pulled the ghost into garage today, got the front end up on jack stands and the motor supported with a hoist.
Then I went a little crazy.
I pulled the front subframe, steering box, power steering pump, alternator, oil pan and the turbo.
Turbo has been replace with an upgraded unit, oil pan replaced with one drill for oil return and the exhaust has been reconnected. Tomorrow I will swap in a newer ps pump and a tight steering box. Mine has extreme play compare to the fresh one. I decided to use the second reinforced subframe that I had for sale. I so tire right. Wow. Its been a long day.

Got the wheels back on and took a short spin around the parking lot. Brakes work pissah, drive shaft center bearing is quiet under hard acceleration, guess and begorrah setting of re-habbed tie-rods isn't terrible. I rotated the worn out rear tires to the front for pre alignment driving before I take it to a shop that groks old cars.

Replaced #1 fuse again.

s38 TS kit inbound
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Found out my driveshaft doesn't fit. Swap is on hold until I source a G265 driveshaft, so chances are I won't be taking the car to MD on Thursday as planned :/
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Driver's door lock finally crapped out. Fixed it, then replaced the interior lever, which crumbled when I was taking it off the door.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Got a driveshaft that fits! Can't give enough props to Ben (who sold me the other one that didn't fit...a year ago!) for making it right. Put it in the car last night and it just needs an adjustment on the slip collar and it should be good to go.
Spent the little free time I had last night getting to the clutch hydraulics, and the fitting on the hardlines I have is f***ed, so I need to get some new ones - looks like Autozone has 'em in stock, and I have some 3/16" hard line and a bubble flare tool so I'll be good to go tonight. Fixed my cluster/turn signal issue (C1 connector loose, RH front indicator has a loose connection).

Nothing, it's dead to me.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
And I today for the experiment was installed in my E28 dashboard from High E34..Sorry can't upload photos(..I like the result, though a bit lying speedometer, but it melodies to adapt the fuel level sensor picking up the necessary resistance and put the temperature sensor from the M50 to correctly showed the temperature..the Wiring is not cut, made adapters, for that would easily return to the place of native dashboard..
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Did NOT end up making the grade to go to Ocean City, couldn't get the clutch bled in time and didn't have a pressure bleeder. Would have made the convoy an all-Bimmer affair - drove down with an E36 M3 and E39 528i - but had to make due with the Miata backup car
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
While I was down in OC, I came across the slave-priming suggestion (may have been this forum, can't remember) which got the air bled from the slave and gave the pedal some heft finally.
But that was when I found that the clutch hard line from the master is leaking at the junction with the soft line (new). Smh. Now I definitely know OC wasn't in the cards for the E28, but now I have to go back and re-flare the line, as if I didn't do it enough times when getting the junk together. SS line hard line was a bad choice :/ my bubble flaring tool does not like it.
I'm thinking of finding some pre-fab hard line and bending it to fit

Replaced the rotor & cap. Wow, got my money's worth out of the old one. When I bought the car over a year ago, it was missing the cap, the nephew of the mechanic I bought it from had taken it to put on another car. So I ran home & got my last "spare" from my 528e. It looked in pretty good shape when it went on. It was pretty well pitted on the electrodes around the cap tonite when I changed it. Funny how my car idles a bit smoother now.

And then, because of this,

back to this.
When I come across another s3.73 I'll swap the powder coated cover, again.

I've got the triangles, but no box or rear cover w/ holder.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Paid $3.25 for a self-serve car wash. It's shiny again.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Shiny new wheel bearing, stainless steel brake line, final rotor and caliper to complete the big brake upgrade. Went to bleed the brakes and realized I have no more brake fluid . Ill have to wait until tomorrow to complete the job. Got super lucky on the wheel bearing. The thing literally fell off once I got the nut removed.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Got the car on the ground yesterday, just to see what it looked like with the Style 29's on it, and to try to fire it up - no dice. Got some wiring to do, and I realized that was the case. I want to remove the starter relay wiring as I think that was the reason why I was having intermittent crank issues with the automatic.
Went to the junkyard and saw a nice E34 530i, so I snagged the Style 5's w/ center caps to refinish and go with the 15" tires on the Style 10s (which I never really cared for anyway), along with the side repeaters (always loved this feature on euro BMW's/cars in general when I lived in Europe in the '90s) and the wooden shift knob.
You can never have too many wheels...
My buddy shot this cheesy picture of me using a Mercedes exhaust to get the unbelieveably-tight lug nuts off the FR corner (they were the only ones overtightened!)

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
I finally got around to removing the amplifier setup that I had purchased on my way home in Knoxville. It's getting returned to Advance and I now have 5/6 speakers working again, and it sounds terrific for being nearly 30 year old speakers! It amazes me what a little bit of proper wiring can do the sound of these old things. The head unit isn't my favorite but I'll worry about that another time. For now, it works, it sounds good, and almost all of my speakers work. I'll need to see whats up with the passenger tweeter. Oh yeah, and I think I need to figure out some what to attached the speaker grills....
Next up will be swapping over some black interior bits!! Thanks Dave!

Last Thursday the Boys from Nebraska blew through town on their way to Texfest and dropped off some goodies. My new to me e30 Manual Sport seats in glorious leather from Mike H. out of his Zinno car turning tracker. Thank you for the door to door delivery. I hope you enjoyed our state and the rest of the trip. Your wife and daughter are troopers! Here is a pic or two. Will do full cover spread next year when Turbo goes in, in the Spring. Todd at TCD his helping secure the goodies now. -R
