I went to change one of the images in my signature, and got this message when previewing or submitting:
It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.
The image I'm trying to use conforms to the irrational 200 pixel height criteria, and the file name is not overly long. Even when I back out of the signature editing window, go back in and click Preview without making changes, it throws up the same error with the images that are currently in my sig.
I don't think I'm doing anything wrong... Any ideas?
Limiting sig image size isn't irrational, especially when people use too big of a picture and then cop an attitude or become argumentative when asked to resize or remove a large picture. It happened many times in the past. I guess the pixel size was arbitrary, of course, I could have picked something larger or smaller.
Unfortunately, allowing the server to load files from remote hosts is one of the most common methods for injecting foreign code. I turned off the remote files option during a security audit of the PHP config, probably a few months ago. As an unintended consequence, this effectively "disabled" the dimensional check as the forum software is prevented from opening the image. Although the forum software seems to be secure in the use of the feature, I'd rather err on the side of better security. Thus, I have removed the signature size limit, otherwise no one can ever modify/create a signature with inline images.
So this problem should be resolved, but if you use a large sig pic and it becomes annoying, expect someone to say something!
Thanks, Justin. The comment about image height was more of a poke at Jeremy from the last time he and I went a round over the topic of sig pics. I fully understand the issue with overly large images in sigs, and promise to keep them in check.
