Today I changed the oil for the first "real interval" after building the M30B35. The car now has 187,486 miles on it. It had 178,500 when I dropped the engine in and 181,944 when I did the ~2000 mile change.
So there's now 8,986 miles on the engine (5,542 on this oil).
I pulled the oil filter apart and inspected it. There was a single piece of silicon gasket material and I couldn't find any metal. I used a magnet to see if it would pick anything out of the filter and nada.
I'm sending the oil off the Blackstonelabs because I'm curious.
Oh, and in case you are curious the leak at the rear main seal is gone.

Just my luck.
I'm putting 250 miles on Vlad a week. Drives perfectly. Perfect in every way (other than the exhaust sticking out like one of those monkeys with really long tails).
Julie hasn't ridden in it in a while. We go to a musical the other night (How to Succeed in Business Without Even Trying at the 5th Ave Theater; actually quite good; very funny).
Get in the car after the show (in a dark, very busy parking garage) and no tails and the OBC is out.
Fuse 5 blew.
Julie's all texting her friends pictures of me replacing the fuse in the dark: "Old car probs."
That circuit on this car has always given me (and the PO troubles). I thought it was finally licked. Guess not.
Also, the o-rings I bought and applied to all the fuses either popped off or broke in the 3 months since I put them on. Don't buy these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F ... UTF8&psc=1
Anyone have a source that aren't so fragile?

Is there something shorting out the glovebox light? Thats what was giving me intermittent trouble for awhile.

Try elastic bands for braces from the dental industry for those yet? Looks like they would be a perfect size, and used to moisture, etc. I used to have a bazillion, but none now unfortunately, or I'd post some right over.

Did the rewiring cure the voltage drop? Silly question but did you physically run new wire or break open the loom?

The Walbro 255LPH fuel pump that I put in after the engine transplant was really noisy. I finally got so annoyed that I ordered a TRE pump instead.

Put it in this afternoon. Much, much quieter.
I appreciate that it came with a rubber condom thingy that helps insulate the noise. Tight fit, but it does go in there.

Wow, funny timing. The new bosch main pump I put in last year has been getting noisier and noisier. I assume because the intank is dead. ( which I found when I put in the new main ) I bought a walbro and have been putting of installing until recently. Just getting ready to throw it in there and I see this. Maybe I'll wait and get a tre. Noisy pumps suck! Nice condom

I bought a TRE initially and was unimpressed with it, especially due to the tapered outlet on the pump and the China part so I bought a Walbro and honestly, I don't think it's really noisy. Of course, I like mechanical things and whizzing and whirring, so I don't know.

The Walbro I recently put in the M5 is functioning fine. No unsettling noise, but again, I've lost a lot of hearing!

The Walbro has gotten noisier over time, but always annoyed me. The TRE is quieter out of the box. Not sure how much of that is the rubber condom thing or the design of the internals. For $70 and 45 minutes of my time it was worth it.

That is quite a difference. I just bought a Walbro to replace the ebay special that died a few months ago, we'll see if I have the same issue.

First, that picture is pure fuel pump porn. All kidding aside, the thing is a work of art. I just bought the $100 aftermarket/ebay special pump based in part on recommendations from others here. Lo and behold, without modifying it, it didn't hook up to the fuel sender plug, so I ended up with a $375 OEM in tank unit. The external pump is still screaming, but not as loudly. I seem to get better performance while driving now....maybe that's just my imagination. Don't know if a dead in tank pump robs power by decreasing fuel flow.
Anyway, will definitely keep the TRE (bien) pump in mind. I'd suggested it to my mechanic, but he said "better go with OEM". He's a traditionalist. I know. I should've just picked up the car and done the TRE myself. Oh well.

Sounds like its luck of the draw and they all have a chance of being noisy. Think I'll install the walbro and take my chances. I like doing things again anyway

So much problems you have overseas with those in tank pumps. Why you don't convert them to euro style? No in tank pump, just a level sender... Has that in tank pump something serious rule?

Well in my case I installed a new bosch inline pump and found the intank dead. After a year the new bosch is rattling and whirring loudly. I am assuming its self destructing because its not getting the help it needs from the intank pump. Don't want to pay $375 for the BMW intank so going with aftermarket intank. I had an idea yesterday as I was installing the walbro. I wonder if you had an inline bosch pump but removed the intank pump and extended the line down to the bottom of the tank with a strainer. Would this make it easier for the inline pump to suck up the gas with out having to suck though a dead inline pump? Thoughts?
This morning I will be putting the carrier with walbro back in the tank with fingers crossed for quiet.
