Re: My bad idea build thread.
You're going to bring this to The Vintage this year so we can all drive it, right?

Only the best car show ever!Whatisthat wrote:I dont even know what the vintage is lol.
Its in Ashville, NC usually around Memorial Day, this time 5/20-22. If you're curious there's a sticky at the top of General Conversation.
You have a very weird but very cool build going on here. I can't speak to the handling, but a 300+ hp car is surely going to be fun.

Then you need to hit up TedFest. There's also a sticky for that. Near or in Toronto.Whatisthat wrote:Im up in Toronto ON, Canada lol. Probably wont make it.

Re: My bad idea build thread.
Cool, but huge engine bay and you decide to the position the turbo in such a way that you can't install a filter?

Re: My bad idea build thread.
ahh, a perfect setup for ingesting small birds and spiders!
Just use some pantyhose over that hole, you'll be fine

Re: My bad idea build thread.
I like what you are doing here but one comment... I would not want the fuel line and filter where you put it as it is in close proximity to all the exhaust stuff. And if you had that gap behind the head with enough space for a filter was it possible to push the whole motor back a couple inches to improve weight distribution?
Keep going, let the Chevy purists be haters. A basic M30 powered e28 was ALWAYS a better car than any SBC from the 80's. You have to go back to pre-72 to have a good SBC. Ask those Chevy guys why they need 8 cylinders and 5 liters to do what a 3.5 6 BMW does.

Re: My bad idea build thread.
As stated eariler i am aware the motor does sit alittle far forward. But i dont wish to cut and of the subframes. If and when this m30 does pop, ive decided to go boring LS swap after.
With the stock uncut subframes intact, i can simply buy a swap bracket and be done. As the car sits now, the motor and trans are simply a bolt in/out setup.
As for the fuel line, the gap is actually fairly large between the line and dp position. 8-10inches. Heat will not be an issue once both are wrapped. I am also planning on a solid firewall mounted stainless heatshield to seperate the two further.
Right now i am just waiting on my megasquirt to arrive so i can wire this beast up!

Re: My bad idea build thread.
Well, after a very busy year. I totally forgot to update you guys. The beast is running and scary as hell to drive. I wound up going with a different turbo. Found a wicked deal on a 72mm snail so slapped it on. On boost the car is an animal.
However, given the stock head bolts still being in. As anticipated i popped the headgasket lol. 16psi on a 72mm was the limit for that set of retainers apparently. So ARP's are on there way. Gonna try for 20-22psi once they are in.
Couple pics of her currently.

Re: My bad idea build thread.
They either look very confused or get extremely angry lol.
I get more weird looks from the noises it makes than under hook looks. A big turbo straight six screaming out of an external wastegate doesnt suit the car at all.
(Not condoning my actions)
Spanked a c5 z06 from a set of stop lights a couple weeks ago. He had the funniest look at the next lights lol

I've always wanted to do an AWD four motor electric Foxbody Mustang.Shadow wrote: turbo honda k engine in a 69 camero or something.
OP, this build is so ridiculous, I've sent it to a coworker as a meme.
I love it.
EDIT::
New build name: Chevrolet NichtGehen.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'm still trying to find the "bad idea" you mentioned in your thread title. This thing has awesome written all over it.Whatisthat wrote:Well, after a very busy year.
