Is there an easy way to tell whether used billies off a car are in still good shape?

I'd like to know this as well ... TIAcek wrote:Is there an easy way to tell whether used billies off a car are in still good shape?

They rebound in a couple of seconds. The one on the right is very not good.bobby in Derby City wrote:I'd like to know this as well ... TIAcek wrote:Is there an easy way to tell whether used billies off a car are in still good shape?

Was really hoping on a group buy for Spax adjustable dampeners too. I'll hold out a little longer.

Bavauto lists two different parts for the rear shocks1st 5er wrote:528elover wrote:Bavauto is having a sale right now on Bilstein Sports. 10% off per shock. It's a good deal. PN: 24-007276 and PN: 24-006071
Bavauto says that the 276 has firmer valving than the 071, but cost an extra $30 a shock.
Which ones did you order, and does anyone have experience with both of these shocks that can chime in whether they are worth the extra cost. At the same time, my car is not a track-day car, and mostly a daily-driver. I think I will go with the 071. I want to limit the amount or body roll in the rear, but I also don't want my rear passengers to take it in the ass when we go over pot-holes.
Any insight appreciated, Thanks!

Re: SPAX Group Buy - Last call - shipping tomorrow
071 was the only listing for Sports
when I shopped by 1988 ///M5.
Apologies for the hijack.

Re: SPAX Group Buy - Last call - shipping tomorrow
I emailed the vendor the shipping labels and each buyer should have received a tracking number via email. Not sure if these ship today but tomorrow at the latest. Waiting on one shipping address confirmation (Gareth).
Thanks to everyone.

I saw that too on the 276. The searching I did seemed to say it was actually the HD shock. I would get the 071.

I'm hoping to check out someone's ride at vintage that has Spax springs and Billy sports. If it's you let me know. I'm the super handsome guy.

Re: SPAX Group Buy - SOLD OUT - Thanks
Finally got an order together for some Bilstein Sports and threw these springs on my car. I thought the thread deserved a good before/after comparison on OEM vs Spax, but I only have these pictures, so they'll have to do. The front drop is quite pronounced, and there's plenty of room to adjust the rear height with the perch location on the rear springs. The ride isn't much worse than what I had previously, which is a pleasant surprise.

The new springs/shocks are a sorely needed improvement in autocross as well, but those pictures haven't been posted online and this post has needed to go up for some time.
Thanks again T_C_D for the group buy!

nice, i wonder if spax lowering springs and stock shocks would give much the same stance.

Please explain.
I would have thought ride would be improved.

Springs should set the height.

Re: SPAX Group Buy - SOLD OUT - Thanks
I'm driving ~10,000mi/yr, in a mix of city and highway on Denver's mediocre road system. Comfort is important to me, at the very least so that the car doesn't rattle apart on highway expansion joints. With this severe of a drop, I expected a major increase in NVH, but I was happily surprised to find that the ride was about the same. As far as I can tell, small bumps (<.75in) are less harsh with the new shocks/springs, but anything taller than that tends to jolt the car quite a bit.1st 5er wrote:TheYoungSir wrote: The ride isn't much worse than what I had previously, which is a pleasant surprise.

When it comes to autocross racing, this suspension is miles better than what I had before (original springs, ~100,000mi shocks, for the record). The car feels better in every way - less roll, squat and dive. Quicker weight transfers, and a far more firmly planted rear end. I'll try to post some autocross comparison pictures after my next event.
