St Paddy's Day 2017 - 16th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
If you are reading this message, you are one of an elite group of a select few appointed to participate in what has been known the world over as a get-together for those of class and substance.
As with previous years, there is only one suitable location to host such a prestigious event: Tucumcari, New Mexico!
But we didn't finalize in time and St. Paddy's Day weekend sells out quick, so we had to settle for our second choice: San Diego, California.
This year, the event will be Saturday, March 18th. There will be a "pre-party" on the evening of Friday, March 17th, which is actually St. Patrick's Day.
After much work with focus groups and various national polls, we decided to do things differently this year. Follow along.
Around 9am on Saturday, we will go here:
That looks like this while we're in it:
Until this happens:
With Yar's diplomacy skills sure to get us kicked out, we will head here:
We will be all so excited, we can hardly contain ourselves.
Excited?
As said before, there's a pre-party on Friday evening. Here's a map showing roughly where all of the festivities will be.
For the out-of-towners that wish to join us, there are lots of lodging options within a reasonable distance of all three locations. When booking a reservation, please inform the desk that you're in town for the St. Paddy's Day BMW event. If you let them know that and present other eligible discounts, you should get a break on the room rate.
Both Darin and Charles have been very generous with their homes for hosting both the Friday (Charles) and Saturday (Darin) parties. Please be prepared to provide a donation which goes towards reimbursing them for the money THEY spend so we can all have fun. There will be a box at the event for this. In addition to one of the largest selections of "adult beverages" this side of a liquor store, we usually have some great food as well, so it's a worthwhile donation.
Just a quick recap:
The dates this year for our festivities are in March. They are Friday and Saturday, March 17th and 18th.
The Friday party is at Karl Grau's house. The start time is generally once people start arriving, which traditionally has been sometime in the late afternoon.
The meet at Mission Bay starts at about 9am. It ends when they threaten to bring in the tow trucks.
After that's over, we head to MLastovo's house where the festivities often continue into Sunday (the 19th).
That should cover the basics and GUMBALL.

I just hope whoever it was that brought the 2013 Rombauer Zinfandel will be attending again in 2017. I didn't drink it until 3 months later but it was spectacular.

Ha! I backed into the driveway to pack up all my oversea's goodies right after that 'stang pulled out. Luckily nobody was harmed in their exit! I guess it was a little late in the day for coffee

And whoever unloaded a few packs of cigarettes on my front yard last year I hope their Chantix prescription is current in March.Karl Grau wrote:I just hope whoever it was that brought the 2013 Rombauer Zinfandel will be attending again in 2017. Plans aren't finalized, but I should be there. Gotta find a better motel than last year though.

Rodeway Inn San Diego Beach SeaWorld Area, 4345 Mission Bay Dr.Karl Grau wrote:Mike, where did you stay?Mike W. wrote:Gotta find a better motel than last year though.
While I've stayed in worse, it was bordering on being a dive for just over $100 a night, and I know lodging has just gone thru the roof in recent years. Not OMFG, I'm never going near there again, just, I think I'll look elsewhere. Access was poor too being on Mission Bay Dr. I'm not a ritzy hotel kind of guy, but there's a difference between basic and crappy. Suggestions?
Re: St Paddy's Day 2017 - 16th Anniversary! O'Fishel Thread
My cousin and his wife recently stayed at the King's Inn and said it was nice for the money. Other than that, maybe someone from last year will chime in with more suggestions.
The King's Inn is in Mission Valley which is close by and there are a bunch of other hotels in that area too.

Did someone say "Gumball"?
You bet I'm there (as if you had to ask).

I kinda would like to see Yar again. And Mike and Charles and Darrin. Kenny was cool but Kohler seemed miffed when I stuck a "For Sale" sign on his car. Vince is still scarred from sharing a sleeping bag with me.

It was such a cool time last year that I'm definitely going back for 2017!
As far as accommodayshuns, does it get any better than this at the Four Points?

Good to hear guys. Aaron, depending on what Santa does this year, your loaner car might be different but you will have one.travisj wrote:I'm in asswell, and Four Points it is.
That's a cool fireplace at your hotel but I had no idea there were Amish in China.
