Like any car junkie I've long been facinated by the Bonneville Salt Flats, home of many a land speed record. Passing by there recently I stopped at the rest area and it turns out you can just drive on out there! No land speed records attempted in the Datsun, and pointless in a way, but still, it was cool.
I didn't push it or anything, but traction actually felt pretty good, I guess I was expecting ice like it looked like. Wearing some patina from the White Rim Road I probably added a bit of color to the white. A bunch of no trespassing signs, but two large and clear ramps from the parking lot to the flats indicated it was normal and tolerated if not encouraged. More than a couple, less than a lot of people out there. Cross a small one off the bucket list, now I've driven on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
