Just installed mine this afternoon and wanted to thank you for a great product. The most tedious part was removing the old fuse holders from the box but the install was easier than I expected. :thanks:

Sorry for the late reply but I have installed mine earlier in the year.
Thanks for making this prodcut. Very happy and I don't have to worry about bad fuse connections ever.
Highly recommended!!

Our assembly robot hurt itself today - looks like some of the servo wiring to the gantry fatigued out while I was pushing it a bit and the vertical axis isn't functioning. I was warned this "happens every so often" by the guy I bought it from so it's not entirely unexpected, but I didn't think it would go from working to busted this quickly. Frustrating but not the end of the world.

However, the manufacturing line is down until I can get the repairs done which will have to wait until I've taken my PhD qualifying exam later this month. I'd guess we're looking at a 6-8 week delay for orders placed through the HGL website.

Nothing ever breaks when it would be convenient; such is life.

Folks should understand that endeavors like the one Y'all have going are niche and are not built to have redundant systems in place, nor should they. Doing so would only drive up the cost of the low-production parts. A short wait for these is not a big deal, given the fact that decades have gone by with no viable alternative in the first place.

Thanks Shawn - I don't think everyone realizes all the manufacturing is done by a grad student in a garage.
I'm pretty frustrated but I don't think it'll end up being a major setback. I did end up having to place >2500 resistors by hand with tweezers yesterday for a sponsorship project which was exactly as fun as you imagine.

I'd guess before December but I'm not sure - depends on how hard fixing the robot is.

Oh yes, you are correct. The wife had 2 more courses to do just before the same point and then we got transferred due to my work. Unfortunate as she was killing it (she has a master in counseling and was going for her PhD)

Congrats! Quick question - I'm looking to purchase one of these and was wondering if a "fuse tap" would work/fit with your board installed? The radio wiring in my car was destroyed so I ended up having to run a power wire directly to the fuse box, the "fuse tap" with this style board would be a better solution than my current soldering job. Please let me know. Thanks!

It would work and I have used them in the past, but those aren't generally very good solutions. I can get you a blade fuse insert for the accessory fuse box if you're interested.

Open question: Who would want a Mini-Box Upgrade Kit?
No LEDs, just two blade fuse holders. Pic of the prototype:

I would! If both fuse boxes are upgraded, this would obviate the need to carry different types of spares.

I guess it depends on the price! But I'd be in for one for the same reason as Shawn describes.

Short update on manufacturing:
All the first round of parts arrived, unfortunately I got part-way through assembly and realized the wires I specced (18ga) wouldn't fit the displayport connectors so I had to design and order adapter boards (which will make my life easier in the long run at least). I'm expecting those to arrive some time this week, hopefully everything goes smoothly and I'll be able to start shipping the backlog this weekend.

Quick update: I have the parts to temporarily fix the robot but I am going to be out of town this weekend for a family funeral and next week is finals week. I will have current orders shipped by the end of the calendar year. If you're looking to order between now and January, both Angry Ass (USA) and Ivo Christov (e28.nl, EU) have a limited number in stock.

Better late than sorry, bought mine a looong time ago, and only just got around to install it.

Small comment, i'd bought another fusebox, and did the "destroying" on that one. It's not so bad to depin the relays and swap the fusebox, only thing is, I tried swapping one wire at a time, both fuseboxes side by side, and I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's a lot harder than just yanking all and connecting from 0.
Thanks Galahad!! Awesome product.

You're welcome! Always happy to see successful installs!
We're trying to come up with ways to make installation easier but there's not much short of making entire replacement boxes...

Agree, it's not that hard of a thing to install, but I was a bit wary of the destruction part, it was much better out of the car, but you then introduce the depin. So I guess it's one or the other haha.
It's a pitty the fusebox did not come as a pluggable part of the car on our e28s.

Porsche 928s have fuse / relay panels that are all done with plugs, easy swap. Problem is the engineers were on drugs and made all but about 5 of the 200+ wires gray so I wouldn't call it an improvement haha
