These just sold: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/alpina-wheels/
Knock-off rims just like these ( visually ) can be bought from reputable websites, new, for around $1200 per set.
I'm a cheapskate, and ignorant about rims, and want to understand why $4600 is a better choice other than the obvious fact that those are true Alpinas which are original and well-made. Are they constructed that much better than knock-offs? If so, in what way(s)?

Re: Original Alpina rims
The high price is solely due to them being originals. Just like how a person could take a regular 535i, add the drivetrain and other necessary parts to make it into a replica of an M5, and even though it may be equally as good it still wouldn't be worth as much as the original.

I never felt that the covered-lug version with the locking hubcap were correct for the E28 anyway. Those really became a thing with the E30. I much prefer the open-lug version on an E28.
Re: Original Alpina rims
there it is.
In my opinion replica anything is fine performance wise usually, but if your standard of quality and pedigree of your build is at a certain level then replica just isnt right. plus people can tell the difference and some replica parts just dont cut it.
I've been hunting genuine zender side skirts for awhile and recently paid 3x more than what I can buy replica skirts for. but to have the real thing is worth it, especially when you have to drill holes in the car to even fit them. not worth drilling over fake parts. not the same as reversible wheels but same quality concept.
