11" Alpine Halo Screen Location

Hello all.

New owner of a 1987 BMW 535is.

Question regarding locating an Alpine screen headunit. Can I put the head unit in the location of the ash tray and cigarette lighter. I have no use for either. What is the grill/vents above purpose? Heater box? I am new to E28 so wondering what the screen will interfere with.

Any advice appreciated.

Welcome, I see this is your first post! Please read and heed the Forum and Tech FAQ sections.

The stuff in the center console behind the grille is the A/C portion of the HVAC, in particular the A/C fan.
