e24 power sport seat backrest fix.

Post by Coast Motor Werk »

My 85' 635 has the typical dropping seat backrest. The problem is the whole hinge must be replaced and they are NLA. I disassembled one of mine after attempting to buy 2 used seats (same failure). My daughter and I CADed up the backrest lever and will have them made. I was thinking I could offer the parts or repair as a service as the disassembly of the hinge is not easy. Maybe I could send out instructions for removing the hinges to be shipped for repair. What do you guys think? Trying to gauge interest.

I've no need myself, although I do have a set of E24 sport seats waiting for a car to go into, but parts availability is always a good thing. Seems like someone made something up not real long ago, although I don't recall exactly what. Seemed expensive, but I don't know what was involved and sometimes you're between a rock and a hard place. IIRC just the part(s) were offered, not a repair service.
