Black over black 85’ 535i manual trans (VIN: WBADC7400F0651694) with a low mileage S38 engine conversion (currently just under 40K miles) that came from an ‘88 M6 donor car (VIN: WBAEE1413J2561151) that had 29.5K miles on it at the time of motor swap. Conversion was done by Greg Lavelle (BMW restoration specialist) in N.C in late 2007/early 2007 . Both the M-drive train and the 535i’s mileage are documented. I have Car faxes on the donor (M6) and the 1985 535i that I ran at the time I purchased in Sept 2007. Per the carfax, the 535i came from southern California and AZ and shows no signs of northern road salt exposure. I also have a copy of the M6's salvage title with 29.5K miles at the time the car was salvaged (the M6 was hit in the rear). Pics and any other reasonable info/independent inspection, etc. are available to interested parties. The following are additional details of upgrades performed at the time of the S38 motor swap less than 10K miles ago (I have parts list for much of the items below) and the updates I've done since purchasing the car in Sept 2007.

• All of the M drive train parts, S38 – engine, G280 transmission, wiring harness/ECU, were taken from the low mileage M6. Suspension parts from the M6 donor car were used if they were solid; if not, they were replaced with new parts.
• New out of the box M5-front brake calipers ($800 each)
• OEM springs replaced with Suspension Techniques/ST sports springs (gold), low mileage M6 strut inserts used in front, Bilstein HDs installed on rear.
• Fresh brake pads all around and SS brake lines
• All new hoses, belts, fluids at time of conversion in spring of 2007
• New motor and trans mounts
• new M radiator and tranny cooler w/ associated lines
• Rebuilt A/C compressor, new dryer, and lines..blows cold, but heater motor squeals on occasion and I’ve detected a slight bearing noise in the A/C compressor
• Nice Recaro SE sport seats (black cloth)…in good shape with adjustable mounting brackets
• Several gaskets (door windows, etc.)show age cracking and/or sun fading…sunroof seal is split and needs replacing
• Original bumpers that have typical alum hazing and black trim fading, but are intact w/ no cracks
• New large diameter SS exhaust pipe from exhaust down pipe back to muffler and universal Magnaflow muffler, (muffler not SS); currently no cat converter
• New 17" cross spoke BBS “style” (made by ASA) wheels and low profile performance tires
• Body Exterior: Original Swartz paint, no collision or prior paint work history or evidence (.e., clean carfax)...paint has some scratches and several dings, but buffs up nice and glossy. Believe that a Ding Dr visit would could correct most if not all body panel dings, except for the hood which has several relatively deeper scratches that likely could not be corrected well with paintless dent removal…I was planning to find a better Swartz hood and swap.
• Euro headlights
• Momo "pistol grip" style black leather shifter knob and short throw shifter
• SS front strut tower brace /painted metal rear strut tower brace in the trunk
• K&N style round free flow air intake
• New front "is-style spoiler (also have rear "is spoiler but it needs to be painted to match the car-currently royal blue)
• Fresh window tint
• Alpine stereo head and new speakers (nice sound); although the CD unit is jammed/won’t accept disk)
• Low mileage 3.73 limited slip differential w/ fresh seals; recently service with synthetic lube.
• No motor oil consumption or smoke…quick starting with smooth idle…no timing chain noise on startup
• Price: $7.2K/obo for the car as described above…a super low mileage M5 drive train; a very drive-able project largely complete mechanically only needing the final cosmetics to finish up, or drive as is/great track candidate
• For $8.2K, the car comes with genuine staggered 16” (7" front/8" rear) open lug Alpina wheels in great condition (refinished approx 20K miles ago) and an authentic Alpina 3 spoke fine-spline steering wheel in very good condition (9 out of 10 condition).

I personally think your price is too cheap. When you consider the cost of that motor, the labor to install it, and a clean chassis, you are waaaaaaayy above the asking price. I think you shouldn't sell the car for any less than $12k.

Thanks for all of the support guys.....There's certainly been a lot of good work and money thrown at the car so far.....I think it will be a great car for someone with a little time and energy to continue the project.....If I weren't moving and losing my garage & storage in a couple of months, I'd keep her tucked back and continue to tinker myself.

Your the kinda guy that I'd love to see this car go to....someone with the obvious skills to finish her up really nice....

With a little attention, this car would be an absolute screamer...I wanted to completely debadge it and turn it into the ultimate dark mysterious sleeper....I think the black on black color scheme really evokes emotion.
