[BEAMTERS] Chat room / instant message functions?

Post by Soco »

Hey beamters;

I was talking to a friend earlier and he was on some subaru forum, and the forum had an instant message feature built into the board. I was wondering, is the software that runs this board capable of supporting instant messaging, or a board chatroom? If it is, that would be a cool feature to have, if the server can handle it that is. is this in any way a possibility?

We have PMs. I feel that meets the same needs as Instant messaging would.

Yes, but it can fill up your inbox quite quickly. :laugh:

Hell yes it can.

Over half of the time I get PM's is when I'm on the board anyway so an instant message function would be nice.

I'm sure we all either have aim or jabber... wouldn't it just be easier to share our names?

We had IM on the previous page (or a designated sight). It did not work due to many different conversations at the same time.

Check out BMWgiant's and duggi's "line" under their respective posts. They both have ways to contact them via some form of instant messaging service. The system is in place, you guys just need to use it. MyE28.com won't be host to any IRC or other "chat" features anytime soon. Sorry, but there's other fish to fry. Like trying to figure out how to get people to stop making signatures that're, say, about 15 lines long!

So, I know this is old, and irrelevant, but I want to test a sig, and for future reference... I think a chat room is probably a bad idea in general simply due to the fact that none of the conversation would be archived and never searchable... Just want to throw that out there.

I think it would be more useful just to increase the capacity of our inboxes. I think a chatroom would be stupid, IM would be ok, but would be much easier just to use an existing service(aim, yahoo, msn).

what about using Ventrilo its a great program that would let us all be able to talk to one another. I use it for gaming but I think it would be cool if people where able to log in just to chat. It would make it much easier with tech issues instead going back in forth with posts you could get all the info real quick.

heres the link if anyone is interested www.ventrilo.com
