Why is Tesh FAQ locked? If I cannot access because I lack permission what do I need to do?

They are read-only. If you have a question that pertains to one of the FAQs, post in the tech talk forum and reference that FAQ, I think that will work well for you.

It is locked to the extent that you may not modify or add to the material there. You can certainly access it. That is what it's for!

We consider these procedures to be 'engraved in stone'. That means they were reviewed by all the board members who wished to do so at the time they were written and agreed upon as accurate and useful. [You can see some proposed ones as 'Sticky' posts in the regular Tech Forum. They are currently open for comments.] Each one was written by someone who has done the job and others agree that the solution and procedure is the best recommendation. We also generally agree that the question or problem is common enough that we're tired of writing the answer over and over again for new members.

These are issues common to virtually all E28s. If your car has not yet had one happen to it, chances are good that it will. So when something goes wrong with your car, the very first place to look is to the Tech FAQ.

This past week, I had a clutch anomaly in my car. I figured (hoped!) it was the clutch slave cylinder, which is easy to replace (and a job I've done a couple times before). It wasn't. My next suspect is the clutch pedal bracket. I have not done this job before, but I know others have and it is so common that there should be a procedure there for it. Sure enough, the very first FAQ we ever had was from JBort. I just printed it out. ;)

Thanks for the explanation. This website has been and will continue to be a great help while I rebuild my 535is.
