My pleasure...

Here's some comments on the BAT site from one of our own:

There are some astute comments in this section, and some jackass snide remarks. I know this car, I know e12 M535i’s (I own chassis #18), and I know the seller. I advised him on the purchase of this car in 04 from the seller in Germany who I also know. It was one of
the finest, low mIleage and very original cars I had ever seen, and now stateside, it is the finest in the US of the 20 odd cars that still exist.

You will be hard pressed to find another to compare it to since they are so rare, and it is a time capsule for Motorsport history. (back when they were handbuilt by craftsman and not on an assembly line).

This car is a gem and worth whatever he is asking (email me privately if you are a potential buyer and I will give a number of what I think it should fetch.)

I'd rather have that than any E28 - except this one:

I prefer the M535i that Robert Knowlton has, though (no spoilers).

Robert's car has lower mileage, but Philippe's car is the best in the US I feel just because it is a desireable color combo and has the right options (no ac, spoilers, headlight cleaning system). You couldn't go wrong with either car, although I don't think Robert has any plans to sell.

Adam,

In the BaT comment string there was some mention of potential rust along lower door area showing in pics, ...do you know of this car having any corrosion issues? have you seen it in person to know for sure?

I can go either way on the spoilers, but the blue interior and lack of AC kill the deal for me (as if I'm in a financial position to buy either car, one of which isn't even for sale!

As far as I know, the car is perfect with zero rust. But I have never seen it in person. I'm sure the seller would be happy to take detailed pics of any and all trouble areas.

I was wondering the same thing from the pic below...if you blow it up and look at the lower front corner of the door (note pic below is from his mregistry link).

Holy shit. I think you guys are on the right track to at least want more pics of that area. That does look suspect.

I'm going to bet that's just a discoloration - usually when I've seen doors on E12s and early E28s rusting there, the door check-strap spot is pretty bad, too, and it looks good there. Still, I'd want confirmation.

This car is amazing and I will be watching this auction closely. I would love to own this car. In response to a question raised above, the yellow high beam headlamps are not original to this car.

Best,

This is epic.

But the situation then vs. now is completely different, so it's justified!

Adam- what is the correct speedo for these cars? I have seen 220 and 240 kmh.

I've got one of each, just trying to set up a proper cluster.

I think it depends. An '80 I've seen with the 220kph and an '81 with the 240kph. But then someone from Europe emailed me after I had said this in another message I think on the e12 M535i board asking where I saw that and I couldn't reproduce my sources. I think IIRC I was looking through the photos on e12.de a few years ago and noticed all the '80 E12's over in Europe had the 220kph and the '81's had 240kph. So I made a hypothesis and started blabbing it to anyone who'd listen.

The seller needs MEDS! He is like a German clock at high noon (if you know what I mean).
