Mustang injectors? Search no workie...

Does anyone have a reference for various Bosch injector specs? Ed, are you saying the basic 19lb Mustang injectors are not an upgrade over stock 3.5 injectors? What's the rating for stock injectors in a 3.3? When my car was converted to Motronic, the injectors were serviced and flow matched (requiring one replacement), but I bet they are the original 533i injectors. I'm looking for an upgrade to complement my cam and chip.

I researched this a long time ago because I figured my nearly 200k mile injectors were just about done. My buddy offered me some low milage 19lbers from his Mustang after he swapped in some 24s along with a larger recalibrated MAF sensor. Based on info from Conforti, it seems that a 19lb Mustang injector running at BMW fuel pressure will provide a little over 2% more flow than a stock M30B34 injector which is probably within production tolerances. 19lb injectors are NOT an "upgrade" but they are a cheap way to freshen up a motor. After trading e-mails w/ Jim Conforti and looking at various injectors to make sure that they would physically fit I installed the injectors my buddy offered me. They performed well for several more years until I sold my car.

It looks like the M50 injectors would be less of an "upgrade" than the mustang 19 pound injectors. But it looks like they would work:

325i's equipped with Motronics 1.3 and built for high performance, more than 180 horsepower, experience lean running at the upper end of the RPM range, say above 4500 rpm. One of the solutions is to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 19 pound injectors in place of the stock 15 pound units. The car won't run well with this swap unless you back off the fuel pressure from 3.0 bar to 2.5 bar and run the engine long enough for the ECU to learn what it needs to run within parameters. You can then slowly bring the fuel pressure back to 3.0 bar, moving it up in 0.1-0.2 bar increments until the full 3.0 bar is reached.
I don't thnk this will work with Motronics 1.0, but then again, you could give it a try. The 24 pound injectors have been tried in an 535i engine without success, but they were being run at full fuel pressure.

When using a non-stock injector, you have to look at the injector flow rating and the pressure at which that rating is taken. The 87-93 Mustang 5.0 injector is 19lbs/hr at a lower fuel pressure than BMW uses. When run at BMW pressures, the flow comes up a bit. The M50 injector rating is at 3.0bar. The increase in fuel flow is proportional to the square root of the increase in fuel pressure.

I have a set of 19 lb Mustang injectors available. They are of the Design II variety. The injectors were used for a couple of years in my 535is. Probably 12,000 miles or so. I think they had about two bottles of Techron run through them over that time, so they should be in good shape. They came from five-o-motorsports, so I'd be willing to part with them for a good bit less than five-o will sell them for.

Guys, just jump on one of the Mustang forums (Corral) and you can get some 19lbers cheap.
I got mine from a guy on corner-carvers.com for the price of shipping (and I have two extras). Gas mileage went from 19.7 to 20.4mpg on the on-board computer. Though this might have something to do with the old injectors having 223k miles on them!

An FYI, I think the first year for FI Mustangs was model year 1987 with production dates in the summer of 1986. If buying used I'd want the newest ones made, and that would be something like the '94-96 time frame, or even later.

The early M30B35 engines had the same injectors as the M30B34 engines, the Bosch 0280150714. A good upgrade is the later model Bosch 0280155710 Design III which has closer tolerances and finer droplet size and spray pattern.
I've ordered Bosch 0280155969 Design III's for my 325i Cab, a 15 pound injector, which will work well in an "eta" model converted to "i" specs inclluding the "i" ECU..
The early M30B35 engines had the same injectors as the M30B34 engines, the Bosch 0280150714. A good upgrade is the later model Bosch 0280155710 Design III which has closer tolerances and finer droplet size and spray pattern.

With the need to replace tired injectors, why isn't the option of getting the BMW injectors cleaned being investigated. A set of RCeng or CruzinPerformance cleaned and tested injectors will put the FI back to new. RCEng is more expensive than Cruzin which last I heard was at $11 each. If the car can not be down for a few days, sure go with an alternative like buying a set of BMW injectors used from a board member and getting them cleaned. Probably much cheaper than the fiveomotorsports units. And you can recoup the cost of the used injectors by passing them down the mye28 line. This is if stock performance is the goal.

OK, I have a good, clean set of 714 injectors. They haven't been blue printed or touched by a shop. Anyone want them?
