I recall reading somewhere that it's OK to substitute injectors of differing resistance -- but only one way. Is it OK to use High res injectors in a Low res system or vice-versa? Seems like "vice-versa" would be bad.

Low vs. High Res injectors
I would think, similar to speaker wiring, that the lower the impedance, the more current would be demanded. I think I recall reading somewhere that high impedance injectors wont run optimally on a low impedance ECU, but wont fry it; however putting low impedance injectors on a high impedance ECU will fry it due to the excessive current draw.
Someone correct me if im wrong.

I would say possibly.
Low Z systems use peak-hold current (where hold current is maybe 30% of full opening current). A high Z injector used on peak-hold system may not stay open reliably. I don't know this for sure.
Exception would be using high Z injector on low Z system that uses ballast resistors. Then you could just bypass the resistors. But you don't own a car like that. 530i's had that type of drive but yours is Motronic conversion. E12 528i is peak-hold. I suspect 533i is also peak hold as the injectors are identical to E12 152's except rail connection

Peter, The 533 system is Low Z and as you say, the injectors are basically the same as L-jet injectors.
Todd, when you say it works, is this from experience?
And one for the gallery -- can I swap a later ECU, ICM, ICV and injectors using the existing harness, as long as I don't get 1.1 components? Actually I know the ICV won't just plug in (2 wire vs. 3), but what about the ECU and injectors?
