So the previous owner of my car was a large man. You can call him fat. You can call him big boned. You can call him a healthy eater. Whatever you want to call him, he was bigger'n me. . . I guess that's not saying much, though.
I don't know if his largesse had anything to do with it, but the driver's seat has been broken ever since I bought the car in September, 2003. I've finally gotten fed up with it and have found some time (I'm off work until 3PM Tuesday afternoon) to take care of a few niggling things on my car that've been bothering me.
When you look at the car from behind, looking through the rear windshield, you can see the driver's seat looks twisted toward the right. That's counter-clockwise if viewed from above. The bottom seat cushion doesn't look turned at all, although I haven't really examined it very well. It's the seat back that looks most twisted.
However, I think the bottom seat cushion is the problem. It's definitely one of the seat motors. I think one of the bottom seat cushion's right side motors isn't working. I think it's the one on the right that helps to raise the front half of the seat cushion, because whenever I press that button, the cushion just raises to the right as if the left side motor works fine but the right side one doesn't work at all.
Now, I've fixed the headrest motors before. I know about the too-short cable on them. Is this the same problem, or is there something else that may be the culprit? Assuming the motor hasn't just burned out or something, what would be the fix for the cable? Do the cables come out, break, bind, etc sometimes, or is this some weird thing that I'm going to have to just take the motor out and examine?
TIA,
Got the gangsta lean goin' on my driver's seat. What's the f
remove the seat, it maybe that the drive has loosened up and isnt doing anything. In that case, re-assembly should be all that is needed. OR, there maybe structural damage to the seat back uprights. This happened to Grape when #1 son was rear ended. Ultimate fix was to rebuild seat back with a good frame. In the mean time rehand passgr's seat to make a good drivers.

Shifty,
a is right about using the pass seat for a while and looking into the driver's seat. I have seen the upper inside corner of the seatback frame broken, the seat bottom rear lifting arm broken on the inside, the inside rear seat bottom frame broken. These seats are pretty easy to work over, do some welding and get back in shape, but it may take some time so maybe using the pass seat would be the project for the day.
I was afraid the frame may be broken. It hasn't been rocking, so I didn't mention it, but the PO's largesse may have did the seat in. D'OH!
I'll take a look at it in a little while after I get up and going. . .
Geez, 3:35PM and I just got up. Night shift is fun!
heh heh my latest job has me working from 7pm to 7am. with 1 1/4 hr commute each way. I start bogging around midnight and waken up toward 5 am.

You have it worse than me, my friend! I worked 6PM - 6AM this week. 6 days. It was actually more like 5:30 PM - 6:30 AM. I'd get in bed around 7ish, get up around 3ish, fool around on the board, take a shower, go eat, and go to work around 5ish.
Luckily, we're back on 9-hour shifts this coming week. 3PM - midnight! Woohoo!
Alex's (Yellow) white 535i has the "gangsta lean" on his as well. The frame on the right side has completely snapped -- the bottom right support has also popped which causes the entire seat to slant to the right at a pretty ugly angle. The ride is uncomfortable but hey -- he looks tough biatch!
Mine's probably broken, too. I'll check it out tomorrow.
You know what they say, though: breakage is a great reason for upgrade! Maybe it's time for some sport seats.
