1988 euro 745 turbo - if this engine is good is it worth put
A euro E23 turbo + 5 speed would be an awesome, awesome car.
I'd love such a project for a highway cruiser. Put a 2:1 or similarly stupid rear end in it, cruise at like 900 rpm
Keep the mechanical parts of the turbo system, but run it all on Megasquirt + Spark + Extra.
Upgrade interior bits from later 7 series cars...
It'd be a nice ride if its in good shape body wise.

The manual tranny can not handle the torque of the 745 so BMW put in an auto. Go to http://bmwturbos.scottiesharpe.com/ to learn all about the 745i and the performance possibilities.
I have to add this due to TCD comments below. It is the clutch that has trouble with the torque. There are folks on scottie's site that have the upgraded M5 3.6L clutch that is now slipping, but the engine is running higher than stock boost.

What? I think it is highly unlikely that the 745i only got an automatic because BMW feared the manual wouldn't handle the power. It seems that both the G260 and G265 will both handle huge torque and abuse.

I thought I'd come out of lurk-mode for this thread since I recently found a 745i that's relevant to the topic at hand.
I have no affiliation with this car whatsoever, except that I thought about buying it for a few hours. I then realized I had forgotten to take my morning dose of lithium and returned to reality.
Enjoy...

I have to disagree completely on that. My system is running more power than a stock 745i and my manual tranny is having no problems whatsoever. At 10psi my clutch and pressure plate grab STRONG -- My goal is 15psi intercooled, and my manual tranny should have absolutely no problem holding the power.
