Getting DAMN! tierd of my loud a$$ Yokohama ES-100's !@#$ They are getting so bad that when I coast to a stop it feels like I am driving on a washboard and at about 40mph the hum like off-road tires.

I have run two sets of those as my rear tires, and have nothing but praise for them. They stick relatively well, are SUPER-progressive on breakaway, and dont wear out too fast (unless you're constantly roasting them). They also offer the best wet traction I have had in a UHP tire, and don't get too loud. Never tried them up front, though.

Yikes, that's bad. When I was buying tires for the 325iC, I did a search for four season high performance tires on TireRack's site. They listed quite a few tires by different companies, so I looked up tires until I found several that were rated good in the wet, and had the highest quiet rating. The ties I bought were Continental Extreme Contact, wear rating of 400 and only beaten out by a Pirelli in the noise rating, and they didn't come in the size I needed. The Conti's also had excellent dry handling ratings, not as good as Michelin Sport Pilots or Yoko AVS Sports; but way less expensive and twice the wear rating. I'd say give them a look, I bought them at my local Wheel Works.

You sure you don't have a wheel bearing on the way out? I cursed my Kumho Ecsta MX's for being noisy until the P/S front bearing really started to howl.

Go drive in steady, smooth circles in either direction and see if you can't hear any difference.

Mine became apparent when I would change lanes. R>L = roar. L>R nothing. Straight = subtle roar. It would also roar when braking, but no "washboard" affect was felt.

Just something to consider...

BTW, I love my Kumhos. Very grippy, and last reasonably well, considering their treadwear rating. Pretty good in the wet, to boot. Hell, I drove in icy slush with them (very rare around these parts), and I'm still here! :D Very good product for the $$$, IMO.

I smoked a set of yokocrappas "Geolander II" on my truck. Serious issues with belt separation, steel poking out, and tread wear. Had them for about 15k miles. Mostly highway miles, tight front end, minimal peeling out. Never again. :@

Now I have Michelin LTX's on the truck. :)

If you're looking for quiet tires, then you don't want the Conti-Extremes. I have them on my 540i-6 and though they are good for an all-season tire, they are very loud on rough roads due to the tread pattern. The P-Zero Nero M+S is probably the best UHP All season tire out, though they have a bit of a tramlining problem. I will probably put those (PZero neros) on the 540i-6 next if I still have the car. But as far as a UHP tire, I still cast my vote for the Falken FK-451. They really are great tires.

I am very surprised to hear that. I have always been pretty picky when it came to tires, at least compared to most people. But I really did like the Yoko Geolander AT II+ when I had them on the QX4. They weren't as responsive on-road as the POS stock tires (Bridgestone Dueler HT 689) but they were awesome all-terrain tires that did VERY well in snow, sand, and on trails. Were even able to hold their on in pretty-deep mud! And they lasted me damn-near 30k miles, which is better than the stock POS tires lasted. And this is from a guy who's never got more than 15k miles out a set of tires before on a car.

I am on my 3rd set of 451's, I really like them alot, not worth a damn in the snow but wet and dry it is hard to beat them, I like them 10x better than the Kuhmos....they are alot quieter than the Kuhmos and ride better too....the next set of tires I may spring for the Michelins, just for something new....
Off Road, it is very hard to beat the BFG All Terrains, that is the only tire we run on the mrs 4x4, always has been , for the last 10 yrs...never really had them in the mud as we are not really 4x4 people, jsut need it for the snow in the winter....
Falkens are very hard to beat though....

So far, my Conti Extremes are very quiet, but then again they're new. Also, I commute on smooth pavement almost all the way to work. Also, the noise level of a tire changes for different sizes, a 17 inch version of the same tire might be noisier than the 15's I bought.

Pat:
The Conti Extremes work very well...it's just on rough/grooved roads they become rather loud. That's how it's been since I first got 'em.
