Tech Talk Stickies

Post by davintosh »

Quick question: Is there a point where a stickied post in the Tech Talk forum ought be moved to the Tech FAQ forum? Seems like the number of stickied posts has increased a lot since I joined the forum; given enough time we'll need to page down to get to the new posts.

Yeah, when they're done, they go.

I hate moving entire threads to the Tech FAQ. What I want is a few clear, concise, specific posts related to the issue. A lot of people have tossed up a "FAQ" and never come back to revise, correct, or finish it. If I get tired of looking at it, I cut it free to disappear into the archives. Usually, I'll contact the original poster and ask them to clean it up before I do that. If they're not interested, it goes away and never makes it into the FAQ. Before it does get moved to the FAQ section, I'll split off the responses into a new thread.

That makes sense; if it's in the FAQ you don't want a bunch of extra conversation thrown in to water down the good content. If the OP of a stickied thread didn't want to bother with cleaning up the thread, would it be out of line for someone else to volunteer to do the work? Or maybe make the FAQ a Wiki of sorts so that the pertinent helpful info stays on top and any extraneous conversation can take place out of the view of someone looking for specific info? Just a thought...
