Am I searching wrong?
Am I searching wrong?
I'm trying to do my homework by searching for a S3.25 differential. I'm tossing the idea around about putting one in the 535, and I want to see what prices have historically been. So I search for S3.25, s3.25, 3.25:1, ect, in the parts for sale section. Everytime with no results. What gives?
Ok something is definitely not right. I searched e28 in all sections and it still came back with nothing. Could the site be having a major brain fart today?

Using the site search works, but it's picky about the search string. If you get too literal it won't find anything. I just searched the For Sale / Wanted - Parts using 3.25 + LSD as Keywords and received 366 matches. You'll have to parse through the threads but you'll find want you're looking for.
FWIW: I'd install a shorter diff, a S3.46 or if you can find one, a S3.64.

phpBB indexes words with 3 characters or more. So searching for "AFM" or "CTS" works as expected, but searching for "O2 sensor" will give results for "sensor" as the search function ignores the O2 part. Searching for "oxygen sensor" works fine, but only when someone spells it out like that in the thread somewhere.stuartinmn wrote:I'm not sure about this particular web board, but on a lot of them the egular search feature doesn't work very well when you're looking for short words or numbers.
Aside from that, the search function on this board actually works very well compared to some other sites that I've seen.
True, titles aren't always reliable, but 9 times out of 10 if someone has something wrong with their sunroof, "sunroof" will probably be in the title. There's a reason vbulletin, craigslist and every other search engine has this feature.Shawn D. wrote:No, thread titles are obviously not there. They're not particularly useful anyhow, given how poorly folks word titles ("Quick Question," "Need Help," "Brake Problem," etc.).Pink wrote:The thing I miss the most is search by title or topic, am i missing that somewhere?
Well, we don't have it. You'll just have to deal with it like the rest of us!Pink wrote:True, titles aren't always reliable, but 9 times out of 10 if someone has something wrong with their sunroof, "sunroof" will probably be in the title.
