?!?!!??? Over a weekend? Done right? I dunno but I would think it would be pretty involved to make sure you got all the cuts and welds right. If I were going to do it I'd make sure the car was darn near perfect when I was done though.

rant. Here's the problem I have with the E28 and E34 M5 tourings right now- they're rare. And I think that they look super cool. But the main benefit to one of these models, IMO, is that you can haul stuff. And they would be good for me with a youngin. But if I have an awesome car like an E28 touring or an E34 M5 touring its rare enough that I would want it to be a garage queen.

This is the same thought that I had when I saw the E23 touring last year on the web. I wanted it, but what the heck would have I done with it? I'd have dropped an M30B35, M90 or an S38 in there, restored the whole thing, and then I wouldn't want to haul anything in it. So it kinda defeats the purpose of having the extra space since its a rare car.

So for me having one because it has the extra space is pointless because I would just want it to be a garage queen and a weekend driver- I'd basically want it because its rare. But to convert one (or own one) to have as a utility car no longer makes sense IMO. /rant.

Now I'm getting the sense that you want to do it for the right reasons so I'm not trying to be a dick to you, I'm just trying to explain my POV on the rarer touring models.

Nah, shouldn't take too long. :D BTW, good points on the conflict on having a rare wagon. Those are many of the same reasons why I sold my first e28. Obviously I couldn't haul stuff in it, but furthermore, I didn't like putting dog/toddler in it.

Go get a e34 Touring. They aren't rare. That is probably what I will eventually do, since I am obviously not planning on cutting the roof off this m535 (unless Sherman convinces me otherwise).

If I were to get a wagon it would be a 540i Touring with a Sport pkg. Hard to find and usually expensive. But I would prefer an E38 Sport. But I've pretty much given up on that for now. I'm just going to keep my E90 as a daily and my E28 as a weekend warrior. I still want another weekend car and am still thinking about an 88-89 635CSi 5-Speed or perhaps an E34 535i with the 5-Speed. I have this serious attraction to the M30B35 for some reason.

Actually if the current owner of my old 88 635CSi auto decides to sell it I may buy it back for the engine and swap it into Bandit but that will be a HUGE project for me.

Sorry for the hijack.

That said, don't leave that thing outside or at least make sure it's well insured. ;)

OTOH, an E28 T would be cool sitting next to my E28 cab. :pimp:

Also, the rear damage appears to be really minor. I would like to do a repaint of the entire car at some point, and if I am going to drop that type of $$$, I may try to have any ajarness resolved at that time. At the moment, from 5 ft, you don't see any real issues. Now to find some Alpina wheels :D.
I want you to know you only beat me by three hours.
i am the only m535i and 540i/6 owner. It will stay that way.

If anything happens to my car, I will be over at your house with a car hauler during the next out of state BMW event. You can't take them all with you. Also, this flag is in my front yard. It is Texan for "trespassers will be shot."

Terry Sayther did one YEARS ago with a real touring.

That is easier to do since there was an E30 touring from BMW.

Doing this by grafting E34 parts to an E28 would take a lot longer than you might think. The bodies are shaped completely differently. The E34 is wider by 2 inches as well.

This thread is obviously a joke. It's too stupid not to be.

Here's a photo of an E34 touring (my E34 touring):

No way any of that would work on an E28.

Apparently those rear doors work on an e28. Also, look at the c-pillars on the e28 touring posted in this thread. They are the same as the e34.

Sad to hear about your red e28 Chris.

Well, I am not positive, but that is definitely not an e28 door. I was told that the e34 door will fit on an e28.

It is an e28 door which has been modified. I know for a fact that the E34 door will not fit, but. I invite you to try since you don't seem to want to take anyone's word for it.

I took Sherman's word for it, since I was relying on it until he clarified that I misunderstood him.

Guy I just bought some parts from in Germany built/converted an e30 touring to M3 10 years ago.

That is a Saab ass end cap welded to an E12 as far as I can tell.

We (Vintage Motorsport Group) will be building an e28 touring prototype later this year, most likely with an S38B35 running gear, based on the Schultz Touring with a few mods. Looking forward to the build! Stay tuned. :D

At this point we are just in talks about it, but it will come to fruition. Instead of re-inventing the wheel with the tailgate, we intend on using an e34 touring tailgate and modding that to fit the e28. We are planning on moving the "C" pillar back to the rear and adding another "B" pillar just back of the rear door. Unfortunately we will have to sacrifice an e28 to do this project, but I am sure we can find one that is junk anyway to rob the parts from.
