Have not been on here for awhile, but it is nice to see this update. Such a nice car, looking forward to seeing more info.

Bummer. I would love to see this thing but I also wouldn't mind smelling your interior again in that M535!wkohler wrote:No. No chance on that. It's too far. I'm going to be there in an E28, but not sure which one yet. Perhaps the M535 again. That's a 4,000 trip once it's all said and done.clangpap wrote:Wow Chris. Any chance for Portland in July?
I guess we will all have to go to Phoenix. When is your Phoenix Fest Chris?jay wrote:Bummer. I was kinda hoping the photos would speak for themselves, but I guess not.
I finally found someone I feel comfortable enough with to paint a car. It had gotten so bad, I was ready to give up. We were shooting for middle of November (well, I wasn't really, but he didn't have anything scheduled then - he was working solid for the last year - weird) but the smaller project ahead of mine is out until after Jan 1, so I'm up a lot quicker than I thought/wished/hoped. Car goes in at the end of next week. The photos below were taken this morning. Most of tonight's work was inside the car (and the sunroof). I am probably done until Sunday unless I get off early tomorrow night, so we'll see. Basically, all that's left to come out is the dash. I'm planning on driving the car to the shop, so the windows, lights and the the tail lamps are coming out when I get there. That said, I'm probably going to chicken out and trailer it. Doors, tail panel, hood and maybe the front valance are going to be replaced. I only have the tail panel. Still waiting on the front spoiler, though communication has finally resumed on that.
I will post some photos of some of the interesting things I've found/removed from the car during this process. Haven't taken them yet, so it won't be now.

Exciting! I'm in the middle of prepping my own car for paint, very much looking forward to it. Best of luck with it, mate. It's a stressful process but worth it. You doing the proper prep work yourself, or just the stripping?
Wish I'd thought of this earlier, but would you be able to make and send to me a template for the Alpina rear spoiler mounting holes? I've got a bootlid riddled with oversize holes, from the original Mtech spoiler, and my guesstimating for the Alpina spoiler, so will probably just get a replacement lid from the yard and would like to do it properly this time.

I'm glad you found someone you trust. I hope to be able to see the car when it is done. I'm sure it will be among the nicest BMWs in the country.
It's not easy to find someone you can trust nowadays.
Best of luck on the next step in bringing this B7 to a new level.
As mentioned, you're more than capable of making this B7 into a fine example. Looking forward to seeing it one day too!
Looking like either tomorrow or Friday is the big day to drop the car off at the shop. There's not much left on the car right now (total time invested so far a little under eleven hours). I got a call from him tonight, but I was on the phone talking important stuff with someone, so I missed it.
Yesterday morning, I spent about 40 minutes and stripped the rear tail panel of all of the lock stuff, tail lamps, and pulled all of the wiring from the trunklid, etc. I decided that it's too much of a risk driving the car to the shop. It's about 20 miles away and that would be the time something would happen to the car. My luck just works that way. Also, trying to get a ride from someone would be another nightmare, so it's best to trailer/tow the car there. I guess that means I could probably pull the fuel tanks, but I'll wait until the car is at the shop for that. They have to come out to replace the tail panel.
Doors will be delivered in the morning. I can hopefully work on stripping the doors down, then take them over to the shop in the touring. This way, I can make sure everything is the way I want them, not to mention, it will allow me to really clean the window stuff well, etc.
So, tonight, I figured that since I was going to stay at home but not give out candy (I live very close to the state fairgrounds and we get essentially bus loads of kids, many who are old enough to shave), I'd pull the locks and stuff out of the doors. I discovered that the second lock in the driver door was going to cause a problem with that as it's right up against the door lock heater/clip for the lock. I pulled off one of the wires and the alarm horns started sounding. I tried a few things and nothing worked, so I decided now was the best time to get to the bottom of all of the aftermarket wiring. Let's get it out of there.
I removed all of this:
I also found a 10 Francs coin from 1979 that had been stuck under the front edge of the dash.

Every bit of aftermarket wiring was going to leave the car anyway. It always does in my cars. Please don't think I would have left that crap in there. The problem here was with the shortened timetable to strip the car. That was going to be left until after paint, as some of the other mechanical stuff is being put off as well. [Un]fortunately, while I thought it was completely dormant, I found it wasn't, so it all had to go much sooner than anticipated. This of course is great since I don't have to worry about it anymore.
Today, I spent the morning before I went to work stripping the four "new" doors of all seals, glass, wiring, etc. I initally was just going to pull the glass out. The window regulators were frozen (I broke 11 of the plastic emergency window tools on the right front door). It was on number 11 where I figured it wasn't going to move. The 528e was last registered in 1993, so I guess it had been sitting a while. I'm just glad it was still around. Then, I had to pull all of the wiring since I didn't pull the doors off the donor car. They just cut the harnesses in half. So, that means before these doors can go on the car, I have to strip the wiring out of the old doors and run it into the new doors. I left the latches and the lock actuators in place just to make it easier to get the doors installed and aligned. All said and done, it took about 35 minutes per front door and 45 minutes per rear door. Before starting, I inventoried the new parts I have on hand for doors - seals, window guides, all of the trim, clips, etc. Just wanted to be sure before tearing into them.
After that was done, I went to work. Got home and put the style 8s on the car. This took a while since they were behind the E12, which currently has half of the B7 sitting on it (just all the old trim crap, stuff from the trunk, etc). Got all of that taken care of. All that's left to remove is the rear muffler and the fuel tanks, but I'll do that after the car is at the shop. My fingers are killing me right now.
So, since I work tomorrow at 7am, I'm not sure if I can get the car over there. He's shooting for tomorrow, but I guess we will see. Maybe late afternoon will work for him. At this point, I've got two mostly-stripped cars in the garage. I guess that's somehow progress. Taking this one apart makes me wonder if I'll remember how to put the E12 back together. At least I can cheat with the E28. Kinda funny how I haven't had to look at the Bentley a single time so far. Wonder what that says.
I'll have photos of the car as it sits tomorrow, hopefully.

Since Mike had some issues moving into the new shop on time (none were his fault - he even spent Friday night there in his car), the timeline shifted some, which is fine. I had to work all day yesterday. So, it's going to happen sometime this week for sure. He figured tomorrow or Tuesday, but I am not so optimistic.
So, in light of that, I pulled some more stuff. The hood isn't needed, since it's being replaced. The doors are still on for now, mostly since I don't want to pull them off and have to put them somewhere. I pulled the rear muffler and the fuel tanks today (probably a mistake as I'm in a bunch of pain right now as it did not go smoothly at all, but it probably means he can get right onto the rear panel replacement). Also took the trunk seal out. Found it was original since when they painted the car last (except the roof), they just taped it off. I started throwing away stuff I know for sure I don't need, as well. I can barely move around the garage right now and that's making me more upset than I already am.
I cannot imagine how anyone thinks of paint as no big deal. Right now, I just want this damn thing out of my garage.
Here's a couple shots of the car as it currently sits:
