My friend may have purchased it by now. Stay tuned my friend wants to do a build with his son.wkohler wrote:Trey's car

I thought that car was destroyed. The motor was stored away? That would be interesting.adrian in florida wrote:I got an email from a friend who is considering purchasing the h5sp motor. Re: Operation: Parking Lot Hartge: Update 2/29, it's "drivea
Been a while since I've posted an update, almost exactly 2 years. Lots has happened, so I thought I would get you guys caught up. Moved to Oregon, bought a house.
Slowly was putting the car back together from the initial teardown. Long story short, it runs and drives, kinda. The bottom end is still questionable, I think it was also damaged from the overheat. Runs very poorly cold, won't idle, runs better warm. Had to install an oil catch can due to all the blow by .
Transmission shifts ok, but sometimes will get stuck in 1st. Hope I don't have to open up the case again.
Replaced thrust arm bushings, took care of 90% of front suspension slop.
Been spending as much time as I can sorting all the little stuff, but between paying off some debt, and my furnace dying, my Hartge budget is in the red.
I have a bunch of photos of the car in it's current, sad, dirty state, but I'm typing this at work. Will update in a few days.
5erWest '16 is the goal.

Actually been here since Aug. '14, but been kind of a ghost since then. Hope to be more active in the future. Would love to get together with some of you fine folks, even though I was a 5erWest '15, I wasn't too social.

Wow forgot about this, good of you to persevere and I hope the day comes soon to have it in great shape as a driver. That blue paint is just too gorgeous, I want to see some rolling pictures of it some day.

Time for an update.
We're on the home stretch in the countdown to 5erWest. I have been working hard trying to get the car ready. However, due to several reasons, progress has been slow up to a few weeks ago. I am still working on securing insurance on the vehicle, then I can get a temp tag, since I highly doubt it would pass smog in its current state.
After installing my very necessary "$35 air/oil separator", she is actually driveable. The problem is that I have only driven the car 2 miles in the 3 years I've owned the car, and it hasn't been registered in 5 years. I need to do a lot of shakedown drives to make sure it can make the 70 mile round trip to 5erWest.
Here is the car as of today. Don't mind the dust.

Get special interest plates. They're $15 and permanent, no more emissions, ever! Hope to see it this weekend.

Unfortunately, I waited until the last minute to attempt insurance, and Allstate's system didn't like the Vin. So, now it's taking longer than anticipated, and could be next week until it's actually on the policy. Luckily, my agent is a car guy and is trying to expedite the process so I can make it on Saturday.

That's what I was thinking. Hopefully the DMV will go through with it, however, the Regs are kinda vague. And, only one plate!!! Wooo!!!austin8753 wrote:Get special interest plates. They're $15 and permanent, no more emissions, ever! Hope to see it this weekend.

I did it with my track car last month and it was really easy. I just told them that it was mostly a track day car and occasionally would see the street to "exercise the engine" The DMV clerk saw no issue with it and issued my plates.landspeed wrote:Pics and details of the car? or the oil separator?Adam W in MN wrote:Great to see, more pics and details needed!

Anything specific you'd like to know that wasn't mentioned earlier in the thread?

Progress is sloooow, but it will be at 5erWest again this year. Installing a motor mount and trans mount this weekend, reinstalling the Nakamichi head unit, and just general clean up. Oh yeah, and I still need to register it.hubble1953 wrote:How is the h5 doing???:). Hope to see it at 5erWest this year.

Very cool. I don't think I've ever seen an E28-based Hartge. I've been critical before of the stripes and general styling of the Alpinas, but find those on the Hartge to be complementary without being ostentatious. Nice!
