Got halfway through swapping the m535i over to motronic 1.3 today, also got the temporary reg extended through December so we can get it to run right enough to pass smog.

Finished the 1.3 swap, solved our rough idle issue. Now we can get the damned thing through smog. For the record, a 10:1 engine runs great on 1.3.

Just put new bump stop for all four doors. I went to get them from a local dealer but at $15 each and wait from Germany was too much for me. I got them from Bavarian Autosport at $12 for 4 pieces.

Picked it up from the trans shop after paying a $1700 bill. The irony is that I just convinced my girlfriend to sell her Touareg - warranty was just about over and it's been a service hog - to drive my paid off and "easily repaired" e28. What's the only thing I hate about this car and refuse to work on?? Yes, the auto trans.

The good news is that it's obvious the last place that fixed the trans prior to me buying the car (2000-01) didn't fix it correctly, because it drives better than it ever did since I've owned it. So, it's like a new car...and the girlfriend picked up the repair tab. :alright:

I replaced dogbones, front wheel bearings, front rotors, and pads. And the best part is I was still done in less than two hours.

Now time for a pint and some stuffed peppers for dinner! :D

you should be getting very good at that by this time. I feel your pain.

I shoveled almost 20" of snow off the car today. And I just did the driveshaft, CSB, trans mounts, and guibo myself. The center transmission support (lovely aluminum casting with easy-to-strip square headed bolts) was a challenge, not to mention having to cut off one of the trans mounts, and curse at a former mechanic who decided that, rather than buy the correct lock nuts to do the job right, he'd just use flat washers (one on each side of the front flange bolts) and grind down one of the sides of the hex bolts so it would all fit, since adding the washers created interference problems between the bolts. Took me all afternoon to get the damn things off. Why I ask...

Simply drove it. Am I the only one?

Damn. Reading this thread really makes me feel bad because I didn't grease the CV boots or replace the subframe bushings, or something along those lines. :dunno:

Shadowlined the front/rear/side window trim, hood vents and wiper arms with Plasti-dip spray.
The precision-masking prep time was about 7-8 hours and actual spray time was about 1 hour.
I dumped 1 can on the side trim, and 1 can on everything else.
The prep work paid-off handsomely, as the di-lineation is crisp and clean, with virtually no lifting; a hobby knife is your friend!
The finish is even, smooth and sufficiently thick, with just the right amount of texture and sheen.
Overall, I would rate the finished job a 9 out of 10, with minor imperfections, like not enough spray on the inside top edge of the drip rail, and a tiny gnat :( affixed to the rear passenger window trim, as my only complaints.

That's where I'm at on this e30. Gotta do it again tomorrow.....ugh. I really feel your pain!

As far as the e28 goes, still sitting waiting on me to register it. Really don't wanna put up with the DMV....

Lowered it an inch and a half at the front, fixed my two front seat belts, ordered a rear seal for the leaking gearbox, and a replacement drive shaft as my current one if fubar, put 245's on the rear and changed the oil.

Drove mine through curb height water very very very slowly for about a quarter mile to get home without drowning it out.

Man have we been getting a lot of rain lately...

Ran new power and grounds, new speakers, and a "new" vintage kenwood CD player in the M535i, pulled the auto pedal box out of the e23.

Had my local audio specialty shop intall an "old school" (circa 1993) Blaupunkt Ventura radio/CD player in the B9. I took a gamble and bought it off eBay a couple of weeks ago and paid $65 including shipping. This radio replaced a pretty nice Nakamichi CD7 , which had lost one of the rear channels, also purchased off eBay. I was never was completely satisfied with the look anyway - the controls were a bit "busy" and way too many little buttons.

The unit looked virtually new, came with the wiring harness, owner's manual and cover for the faceplate. I've gotten burned several times before buying vintage radios for my old cars on eBay. Much to my relief, this Blau fired right up, works great and looks JUST RIGHT in the B9

That's sweet! I scored two nakamichi mobile tuner decks in the past two weeks on craigslist. Waiting until I've sorted out the stereo in the e23 to install the mobile tuner deck 1 and then I've got a spare mobile tuner deck 2.

Drove the '83 around all day. It's amazing how different one E28 to another can feels...which brings me to my '88 (M5) that feels so much different, to which I actually did something that required a tool.

It was a big job, not one for you shadetree mechanics around here - I swapped out the signature BMW kidney grills. Took a screwdriver...not just any 'ole flathead screwdriver mind you, but a PHILLIPS screwdriver. Crazy stuff. It wasn't easy work either, you can run into complications when you take on these jobs. In this case, I dropped one of the two screws, where it fell into the netherworld of the car. I didn't look for it too hard, it was pretty much dark. That leaves another project for me tomorrow....

Washed the Style 5's after several weeks of neglect.
Man, what a PITA, even with the new ceramic pads.
Oh well, had to be done, and they do look really good on these cars...
