If thats a 4 cyl Isuzu , they are prone to valve seat seat recession.

Just wanted to follow up with this: turned out Pendleton’s rough idle was actually just a poorly calibrated throttle position sensor. I figured it out a couple months after I last posted in this thread. Following the Bentley manual’s instructions for calibrating it solved the problem immediately, and he’s run smooth since then with no replacement sensors needed. On the one hand it’s nice I didn’t have to buy anything else, but on the other, it’s a little frustrating that the fix was so stupidly easy, and I could have done it ages ago!

Sometimes the stupidly easy fixes you stumble on are the best ones. Glad you figured it out!

Since it was only a problem in park and neutral, there might have been less immediate need to jump in and solve the problem. You probably don't spend a lot of time in P or N. We are glad it is running right.
