Haha. I love it. I’ve been thinking to do the same. I’d love to develop film as well.
It’s tricky getting colours right at night with street lighting.

Built a 3 clutch diff, Thanks to Jay for convincing me to upgrade from the standard two clutch.

So car has been open diff'ing. Swapped a healthy S3.46 into dads car. Rebuilt his old diff with 250k on it. We thought it was healthier then it was. So I ordered 2 clutch packs from FCPEuro, and I had a S2.93 parts diff with super nice clutches. Used the best one for my 3rd clutch and its dogplate. Reused/flipped the dogplates and then reassembled. It has been one of the best things I have done to the car. Very happy with it, other then it is leaking a bit. Had the new sideseal orings, but didn't install them like an idiot. Luckily just weeping, no drops on the floor.

Did a trackday with PCA was good to finally be back at a HPDE. Car did great, the new 3 clutch diff feels super good. The Toyo RA1s are also very nice.

Gave some modern porsche hell and the olders one too

This weekend I went without the ghetto catchcan, so I had to leave it in 4th through the slow section of the track, good way to practice carrying momentum.

Really Proud of this pic:

Great photos.

Was the diff upgrade as simple as remove and replace the clutch plates? And what's the biggest advantage you have seen-- you mention it as a great upgrade but don't say why...

Yes there’s a 4mm space you remove and add a clutch disc/dog ear in its spot. They do wear a bit uneven but it’s cheap and easy enough to do.

I have noticed a lot more rear grip on corner exit. I thought the car would slide more but that is not the case. Actually using traction of both rear tires on corner exit, and car overall feels more mannered. It just made it way easier to drive. When I try to drift the car now when it is wet also no random one tire fire, both tires stay locked all the time.

On a mostly street oriented car that has street tires, I don’t think the upgrade is necessary. Just fresh clutches should be more then enough.

Re: FUBAR 5/3 Track Day Vids

Nothing much has changed. I installed a Euro ecu with a correctly adjusted AFM car likes it.

Had another track weekend. Had a lot of fun. It was raining Saturday and I was on really bad rear tires (heat cycled and low tread), so really interesting.

Sunday it dried out and had a lot of fun. I did miss a session because my key fell behind my grill, when adding oil. That took 30 minutes to figure out.

Finally decided to trust my EPROM for a full track day day. Car did great ran all 70 laps without a real issue,

Only issue is the rear (shit reman driveshaft) u-joint is squeaking (was doing it before the track event) and y pipe fell off. Engine is still moving a bit too much.

Car has cost me a lot in consumables, which is killing me. Tires, brakes, etc.

Tire wear is Excellent, but they are dead so was a slidey weekend.

What’s your current suspension setup? Is camber adjustable? Roll centre correction?

Re: FUBAR 6/22 Autocross! Brown Steering Wheel!

After last event, I broke the diff mount, and screwed up the rearmost U joint on the driveshaft.

Jay was kind enough to send me a new to me diff mount. Thanks Jay!

I cobbled together two driveshafts again.

Car survived an auto-x. Really happy with how it did, competitive against an e30 with a s52.Hopefully next time with fresh tires and or a drivers mod, can match his time.

My tune:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TmRgFjM3SA
Stock 061: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXCi0y_jaxA

Dyno'd!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I compared my chip tune to the stock euro tune. Those are the best of the 4 runs, two runs for each. Was pretty consistent, my tune more so.

+16 whp and +10ftlb for the peaks. The power under the curve is higher everywhere.

Assuming 15% drivetrain loss that is 230 crank hp with my tune and the stock euro ecu is 208 crank. A little upsetting to see it's less than 218 with stock DME but with 98 ambient the DME is probably pulling timing.

Torque Curve is healthy, but will need bigger valves to have less of a taper after 6000.

Solid gains. Are the gains in ignition timing?

Yes ignition timing is everything. Mainly what your paying for in any tune is the ignition map.
BMW or BOSCH cut it pretty hard in that area on the stock euro DME looking at the .bin I have.

Update.

The camshaft begin to fail around October...? Tracked it in August and oil pressure light was coming on at idle. Glitter upon oil change.

TLDR changed oil pump and the whole cylinder head. Got oil temps too hot and valve spring pressures were too high and eating camshaft alive. Brand New schrick Lasted 2 years and 30k miles.

Car was down for awhile. 1-1.5 month? Someone gave me an e46 330i 6 speed for free. So daily'd that until I finally found a b35 camshaft. Cylinder head is now all stock components. B34 head with b35, cam valves and springs. But all stock stuff, rocker arms, no rocker locks etc.

It doesnt really feel down on power still feels quick.

Had a blast with it at TexFest.

Other than that car is pretty much the same. Still doing track events with it. Did two in November, and two this month.

Last event while trail breaking, LF strut housing failed. Tore the tube.

So that is now repaired and reinforced. Found a Koni was blown so that was replaced with my old Bilsteins.

So idk what I plan to do with car now. Still daily it sometimes, forcing myself to drive e46 more. Shell is cracking in a lot of places. Cowl is cracking, bulkhead is cracking, b pillars are cracking.

Pushing this old shell hard with probably 300k on it. Current plan is to keep band aiding it together and keep driving it.

Pics of the failed strut tube? Curious to see what failed and where.

My opinion - drive the crap out of it. You're having a great time, fixing what needs to be fixed, and likely embarrassing cars worth 10x or more what yours is. It may never win a beauty pageant, but it sounds like it still puts a smile on your face.

Still locked out of my Flickr. Update.

I had some major breakthroughs in terms of lap times. Finally got the car down to the 51s, it is just a 1:51.9 but still a 51. I got some Toyo RR takeoffs and a rabbit to follow this is what I needed to push just a bit more. Didn't get go pro footage of a full 52 before go pro died or the 51, but here is some of the 52 behind my friend Chris in his Z3M.

Here is footage tho:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOYxH2NZAvw

My goal is still a 1:49.9. I have talked to some drivers I really respect. There is still another second in driving and getting the perfect lap. No one knows where the other second will come from without adding lightness, grip or power. Maybe a set of sticker tires and a cold day?

I will keep pushing, the cracks in the chassis don't look like they are spreading yet. Once I can consistently get in the 51s, or 50s. I might consider another modification.

Engine seems to have survived the weekend?

I did make some tuning changes and seem to be keeping up with my friends e36 m3 a lot better. Also have a lot more low end torque for around town. So very happy with that. On the straights we were about even, I was also maybe in his draft. So could be illusion of that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3humPs_YU5Y

Other things that have happened:

car got rear ended, euro bumper got a bit mangled so cleaned up my spare set super happy with how it came out

brand new nissen radiator

Genuine 1982 E24 Recaros, I found a set getting one reupholstered right now for passenger. O bought them for instructor training school with PCA, wanted a set of matching seats that were easy to get in and out of. These seats are also somewhat sentimental, update to follow.

I post updates pretty frequently here:
