A few big accomplishments this past week: 1) completed the interior re-dye project (after starting it about 3 weeks ago)... man, that's a lot of work! 2) on Saturday, with the help of a friend, remove front and rear windows, and 3) pulled the head and associated engine parts.... everything looks quite good! May have a minor refresh done at VSR in the coming weeks? Meanwhile the beat goes on :)

Thanks to a Saturday full of 45 degree weather I was able to get a couple of things done.

First I pulled the blower motor off the 85 and transplanted it into the 88. It was a sofica into a behr housing but I got it to work with a little bit of effort. The old behr had a bearing that was toast. Would work intermittently in low and sounded like tumbling rocks when in medium or high. Now I can hear the radio and have heat at the same time!

Second, I tracked down the cause of my windshield washer not working on the 88. Once again the parts car came through and I swapped over the distribution piece. Now salty sprayed windshields can be taken care of immediately.

It's like I have a brand new car.

Just cleaned up and re-tensioned the contacts on fuse 12 . Yah, it is just a plastic one. OTOH. the failure of a plastic fuse sagging with just a little R created heat causes significantly less trauma to the contacts than a ceramic fuse arcing away.

I spent the day (and the past few weeks) dreaming of what my grandfather's 520 is going to look like when we bring it over from croatia. All i know is.........

Alpina Matte blue and some form of tartan interior.

Front Billie Sports to match the new rears. Fixed the Drivers door power lock actuator and door handle. Oil change, cleaned engine bay and Drivers side fron wheel well. Covered in oil from the oil leak.

Inspected front suspension. Seems all I need is sway links. Detailed interior a bit.

Degreased body and replaced some light bulbs.

Next weekend is all 4 axle boots, fix drivers side rear view mirror, exterior window seals (all 4), fuel filter, coolant temp sensor, both aux fan switches and source a new radio.

If I have time I will shadowline all the chrome and pull seats to fully vaccum the carpet. Also need to order pads for all 4 corners, turn the rotors and purge the brake lines.

Discovered the car has SS brake lines and IE catback exhaust. It goes well with the IE 284 cam, IE MAF w/28 pin chip, IE headers, and IE silicon hoses. Seems the PO bought nearly every performance upgrade in the IE catalog. LOL

Again the whole car was $500. LOL

I've been trying to sort out my stupid issue that cropped up a couple of weeks ago. Hunting idle, weird pulsing below 2000rpms, just plain not running right. Checked all 6 plugs, regapped (not really out of spec), ohm'd all of the wires, checked all of my hoses and connections. I even remounted my ECU thinking it was grounded properly or something. I think my next step it to replace the lousy ground strap on the back of the head with a fresh one. I'm also going to toss in a new paper air filter to see if maybe that's causing some unknown amount of restriction.

Additional jobs:

Checked wheel bearings for noises, nothing found, but realized I need do redo my boots on both axles. Also checked the diff fluid, seemed full, but also looked metallic... might be swapping that out next weekend. Trying to hunt down a low speed whine/squeel that I keep hearing. I think it's one of my axles after seeing the condition of the boots.

Mo money.

I'd work pretty hard to make sure you're positive its not a vacuum leak in the system somewhere. I know another member who has had this problem with his ///M5 and I don't know if he ever got it fixed yet.

Yesterday, put a rebuilt heater valve in it.

Today, got a knock knock from the driveshaft wanting to come in through the floor. Silly driveshaft, that's not an entrance!

Wow! All the way from Pandora? ;)

Didn't do anything with the e28 today; it's in time-out. Last time I drove it, it started bucking and kicking and wouldn't idle right. Idle jumps between 1100 - 1500 rpm, and I refuse to invest any time to troubleshoot that before the head swap. Motronic 1.3 will fix that.

Yesterday, I managed to get a new (WIX) air filter which solved A LOT of the running issue I was experiencing here. After that, I finally took JakeB's advice and re-installed my o2 sensor back into my newly fab'd exhaust.

Let me be the first to say, welding on your back, up side down, left handed sucks. This completely fixed my running issues. The only question I have now is that my idle is also up closer to 900-1000rpms.

I have absolutely no vacuum leaks confirmed yesterday with starter fluid on every intake plenum, rubber hose inlet, vacuum hose, injectors.

You name it, I sprayed it with starter fluid with no sudden increase in idle or anything. What is the stock idle that these m30's are supposed to be at?

Replaced all 4 CV boots, welded steering rack mount back onto subframe, removed IE MAF and 28 pin ECU with chip, stripped upper plug on diff, lubricated sunroof, detailed under the hood and painted the hood latches.

Not bad for a days work, not at work.

Put together the new timing chain, and installed the new guides on the front of the block. Wiped the bores down with fresh oil to protect them while the head is off. Also packed up the injectors to have them sent to Mr.Injector for cleaning and refreshing.

Conti Extreme Contact DWS 225/50/16 to replace Toyo Proxes 4.
Toyos would not move the car in light snow even with LSD.
Here's hoping!

Successfully managed to drop one of the dowels from the lower timing cover into the oil pan  finally got the little bastard with a magnet after fishing for it for about 40 mins! Whew! Also installed the front crank seal into the case, put the new gaskets on with just a little bit of pematex red to help the m stay there. Put the balancer hub and nut on, now just waiting for my head to be put back together and a few gaskets.

Spent some time out in the cold detailing the hell outta Adalia. The kids had their way with her and it was a damn mess... toys everywhere and under the seats, and Richard's foot marks on the back of my seat. Devin's foot marks on the back of the center console.

The seats and belts were cleaned and conditioned, and prepped for no more kid seats!

Cassandra is getting the same treatment tonight, but Lindsey still has to have her electrical tools in there.

Drove to work and realized that my turbine shaft seal on the turbo is starting to leak a bit of oil. It's not full James Bond smokescreen, but it's definitely noticeable. At least he turbo is easy to rebuild.
