Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Yesterday I decided to pluck away at a few things.
-Replaced the driver side interior door handle and installed the trim.
-Replaced the passenger side tail light gasket (Still have the other side to do)
-Locked down the jack/tools with the appropriate wing parts and wing nut
-Finished the double tail light mod. Looks like someone did the drivers side at one point, but not the passenger, so I finished that up. Now I have 5 brake lights. Debating on doing more to that for added measures...
-Removed the factory amp as it was barely attached and banging around every bump that I hit. It wasn't being used anyway.
-Tidied up the carpet in the trunk area
-Half way fixed the front blinker that keeps going in and out on me. I full the tabs out so they aren't shoved in so far but it still doesn't want to make good contact with them. I'm waiting for it to quit working again.
While doing all of this, I managed the brake the tabs off the door panel top piece (the black part) because apparently I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't realize the door panel itself does come off as one piece with the top trim, or maybe it does? So now I will be looking around for one of those....

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Last weekend I was searching for a squeak towards the rear of the car and found a rear sway bar bushing clip unhooked. Had nothing to do with the squeak, which turned out to be the parking brake.

Diagnosed Snobs' failed a/c compressor.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Had trouble removing my sunroof. I found the Bentley instructions vague, so I went with the much simpler "can opener" method.

Adjusted parking brake, fixed spotty pb dash indicator, fixed passenger headrest.

I inadvertently tested the 5 mph bumper on the eta this morning. It works.

I took a vacation day and removed the headliner, sunroof, gas tank and wiring from the parts car. So fun.

Just a tad extreme, no?dsmith wrote:Had trouble removing my sunroof. I found the Bentley instructions vague, so I went with the much simpler "can opener" method.
Maybe time for a California top?

At first I thought that was another shot of Putin riding something like the bear shot, but he wouldn't have a shirt or a helmet on. Here he is riding the shark.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
I don't know if you should be Putin stuff like that on here.

Love it...after the 5-speed goes in, on goes a fresh set of brakes and the 16" Style 29s from my buddy's E39....thanks for the sneak preview! Car looks great...
(I also have an 'is' airdam and rear spoiler that'll be going on the car later, but those need to be painted first)
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
I replaced the auto shift cable on my seta. I can't believe that it broke. Only 26 years in the rust belt.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
It's been 30k (and then some) miles since I first drove the Fiver. Today, I decided that it was time to do a valve adjustment - It's been due for one for a bit. I also needed to check the banjo bolts, because the low oil pressure light has been flickering and staying on/off at various times... The past two days haven't given any troubles though, but the days before that were horrible. That light just didn't want to go away. Took off the valve cover and took out the spark plugs - Dad said it would be easier to turn the engine with the plugs out (using a remote starter). Figured that it would be a good time to check the plugs. The first one that I took off, the plug's tip was just covered in white. The electrode was pretty much gone too. However, the tip and threads were dry. Hooray! Might as well replace the spark plugs. (Apparently dad already knew about this, so he ordered them at the same time he ordered a valve cover gasket). Here's the old ones...
Swapped out the plugs and some anti-seize on the threads. This was the first time I've ever done a valve adjustment, so my dad taught me how to do it, even though we had the Bentley. It didn't seem so hard to do, actually! After adjusting them, I checked the banjo bolts. One was already loose. The other one was tight. Took the bolts out and then replaced the washers. Not bad.
Driving an Audi for the weekend, because we also discovered that the breather hoses were rock hard (and one had a tear in it). Those will be coming in on Tuesday.
