Installed new water pump & thermostat, P.S. Belt & Alt Belt & new water pump bypass hose. I noticed since cold weather it was running a bit cold from temp gooahj, and since the heater valve leaking problem finally got fixed, the water pump barely leaking became more evident. My first M30 water pump replacement. Looked easy, was easy. My only slow downs were the stock size AC belt that's hard as hell to get on or off. and then I had a rag covering the front engine hook bracket that has 2 bolts. Didn't notice that as I was putting things back together, just got the fan back on & moved the rag & said Oh crap. Slowed me down a bit more, to loosen the alternator & remove the fan & pulley to get the bracket & 2 bolts on, but I give myself a break every now & then.

I removed the brake booster and got it ready for shipping to be rebuilt. I really do hate removing things with hardline fittings.

Started with this...
... then this happened.
Then, a couple hours later after Alex was on his way with his M30...
... Sammy got his...
... and I got yard art + ca$h.

Nasty, rainy day. Decided to clay & wax the M in my too small of a garage. Life doesn't get any better than Vienna sausages, cigars and Meguiars
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Pulled the rest of the automatic wiring out, including the OBC relay module, which rendered the car inop. Plugged it back in and one of the legs burned up in the box, so I just did a bypass. I also taped up some loose connectors in behind the radio, which I thought may have been contributing to the blown-sounding drivers left speaker (it wasn't). So I'll just throw one of the speakers from the parts car in to see if that solves it. I need to replace the drivers rear speaker too which is inop. Oh, and in diagnosing my no-start this weekend, I killed the battery, I had to give that a good charge yesterday as well.
Nevertheless, it was back on the road to work this morning, so in all it was a good weekend.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Removed the dreaded cracked to shit pedal bracket.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Redid my muffler to cat connection. Flanges weren't lining up and leaked big time. I cut them off, welded on connector pipe to the muffler and clamped the cat side. Fart free now! Me? Not so much.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Went to the top of my driveway to start mine. Tried to turn it over and clunk, everything went dark. Had to get a ride to work. Came home and pulled the battery to have it tested. Tested fine. So brought it home, cleaned the posts, put the battery back in, hand tightened the connections, and it started like nothing happened. Then after driving around, I brought it home and tightened the cables back to the post. Pop...
The connector cracked. So I guess Ill be replacing that next.
Moral of the story, clean the post before going to all the trouble I did haha.

Whatever connection you show to the positive terminal is highly suspect and should be replaced in its entirety ASAP. It even looks like there is another connection to the right wrapped with electrical tape.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Yeah thats the work of the previous owner. He said that he added this...
to the original connector because it wouldn't fit a normal battery, instead only fitting a BMW specific battery? I'd never heard that. So does the original connector fit a BMW specific battery or does it fit a normal auto battery? I've been fixing the hacks as they've presented themselves, such as the radiator hack that recently came up, where the top plastic hose port on the radiator had apparently cracked off, so three pieces of pipe were epoxied one to the radiator, one inside that hose, and one to connect those to together.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
^^^ Yikes. Tell me you replaced that radiator. Good luck with the electrical stuff; that PO sounds like a genius.
I spent the better part of the last couple of days tidying up a number of things on the 528e; the big project was replacing the crappy old KYB strut inserts on the front of the car. The one on the right had blown out and was to the point where it would bang & thump every time you hit a bump. The new Billies are sooooooo niiiiiiiiice and smooooooooooth....

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Thanks and yeah the PO was but he was really nice when it came down to buying the car from him, just had and liked e30's more. I replaced the radiator with a perfectly good one out of an '84 533i parts car for $20.00! It sucks seeing those cars abandoned to the point of disrepair but its awesome to be able to take a couple things off of them and give them new life in the next e28.

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
The reason the battery terminal "extension" was added is because the wrong battery is installed. The posts are reversed. To get the posts on the "correct" sides he flipped the battery around 180 degrees. Now, the posts are too far away for the original cables to reach, so he "modified" the positive side with that nonsense. Find a proper battery, install it the right way, and throw that junk in the garbage.
Note: if you don't, that positive terminal will ground out on that frame rail as soon as that tape wears through and probably burn the car to the ground.

Once that happens, a C101 rebuild is imperative.
Stock battery is a group 47, but a 48 and 91 work just as well.

Had this guy out yesterday afternoon to the hangar:
I was a little concerned about the diffused cloud cover, but I think it will work out (as opposed to the harsh, crystal blue skies of last week). It was a better neutral for the Arktisblau.

Perfect lighting. Can't wait to see those pictures show up in Eye Candy!vinceg101 wrote: I was a little concerned about the diffused cloud cover, but I think it will work out (as opposed to the harsh, crystal blue skies of last week). It was a better neutral for the Arktisblau.
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Replaced the o-ring and the gasket to the oil return down pipe. Hopefully this will solve the oil leak. After that no more leaks I hope!
Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Today I dropped my 528i's oil pan to mend a dodgy patch made by the PO, and to see if I could find anything that caused the oil light to stay on for too long during startup:
Huh? What's that under the baffle?
a paper towel????????

Re: What did you do to your E28 today?
Towel in oil pan, nice find.
All I did was go to dollar store to get another cheap turkey baster to remove fluid from PS oil carrier, so I could replace the 2 small lines that exit that back side. Then I did an "Oops" , realizing I forgot to get the slightly bigger hose 8 x 14 ahead of time. So I subbed in a new piece of 8x13 fuel line for now. I still have a couple more bits of PS hose to replace. Realized I still have a slight kink in the hose that exits the oil carrier & goes to one of the metal lines that run up to the PS cooler. Maybe that's my PS issue. I'll order more lines & tackle this in another week or two, along with the 2 sections up front behind the grill. They are hard as a rock.
