Yesterday, I drove it really fast halfwayacross the State of Washington. I also reconsidered getting Euro headlights, as Jake D took a rock yesterday and had to replace a headlight.
Today I will drive back at normal speeds.

I'm impressed. It's only 8:00am, you were up early. What springs did you get?

I was a bit rushed against the clock; so I didn't take any good shots. I was also busy trying to clean and make everything pretty.
Old original strut:
I need to drive it a bit too so that everything settles in. I'll get some more pics this week hopefully.

Spring is tentatively here, well at least the snow is almost gone. So I fired both the 5's (and the 7) up for their Spring maintenance cycle to begin ASAP. The X5 is nice and all that but I miss my old cars.

Well, technically it was the other day, but I replaced the 535's hydrobooster in-situ without disturbing brake or coolant lines. Simply drained and removed the ATF reservoir, disconnected the master and slid it out of the way, then unbolted the hydrobooster from inside the car. Really not a bad job at all. I also started the M5 for the first time in about 2 months on Monday. Fired right up and landed on a smooth, strong 1100rpm idle. After about 30 seconds she mellowed down to around 900 and life was good. So good.

Technically this was the past four days, but I did a head swap and now I have a nice minty B34 head with a hot cam in it. I love new head(s).

Started off by replacing all of the vacuum lines, one of the fuel lines, and the windshield washer lines in the car.
Those BMW hose clamps are a real bitch to get off. So glad that they also got replaced.
Then since it was nice out, I went drive out in the country. First the car got angry and started having an intermittent misfire when I'd go over a bump.
After the misfire started, a lawn care truck, going the opposite way, decided to put a nice chunk of rock into my windshield, effectively retiring the windshield after 27 years of faithful service.
Took a look at the car this afternoon, figured out what the deal with the misfire was, finished putting in the vacuum line that goes from the bottom of the intake manifold to inside the cabin, and got a "quote" for my windshield. However, the quote was really just her telling me that she can no longer get any of the things I need to have the windshield done, and that it wasn't a repairable crack. So now I get to play where is my next windshield. Finally, the car surprised me by how much equipment it can fit in trunk.
Today has definitely been an interesting day.

My M5 had an f'd up sunroof, broken plastic and torn liner when I bought it. Thanks to cek for the cables and TCD for the M5 liner. I spent a couple of nights trying to figure out how it goes back together and I think I got it. I need to lube and install the panel to fully test. Kind of excited about this repair.
One step closer to perfection!

Finished installing my
New & Improved In-Tank Fuel Pump. I wasn't planning to do it today, but the e32 started acting up (alternator died) while I was out for lunch, so I drove it home, then finished up the install and drove the e28 back to work. It started on the first turn, and running fine. Love it when a plan comes together.
And I didn't smell gasoline all afternoon.

Took the 528e out for the first drive of the season! It feels so light and responsive after the X5 all winter.
Also took the M7 out for some exercise. That car is going to get me in trouble yet.

I attempted to remove the left parking brake cable, which needs to be replaced. I have done this on e21s and e30s. The metal nose on the flexible section of conduit always rusts to the tube. E28 is no different in that respect, but shamefully the end of the tube is hidden directly above the subframe. I tried to rip it out by hitching it to my e24 and driving away, but it wanted to drag the whole car along. Too bad I didn't have new parking brake cables on hand three years ago when I had the subframe out

Replaced the windshield wiper linkage for the second time. When the original one broke I had it welded about a year ago. It broke again, so I installed a replacement I had lying around. It turned out my car didn't have the rubber grommets (part # 61 61 1 353 754) that isolate the linkage from the body, so I'm going without them for the time being. I'll install them when they show up.

It's been mildly warm up here in Connecticut. Past few days I have been in the garage trying to get Lena road worthy again.
265/5 Cleaned, painted, installed
Shift console Cleaned, painted, installed
Shift lever cleaned, lubricated installed (now I need a new shift knob, looking at custom wood and new leather shift boot)
Blaupunkt Nevada 168 from my 535i installed and working (finally pulled out the wife's CD after 3 years)
Next up after lunch:
Install drive shaft
Rear differential
