We had a big snow storm back in 08 where the snow stuck around for about 2 weeks. The people that lived on hills in Seattle that don't know how to drive in the snow made a big enough stink about the hills not being clear of snow that the mayor caved in to the pressure and said the city would change its policy and start using salt for future storms.
Didn't know they decided to start using salt.

I lived at the top of Queen Anne for 5 years. I loved it when there was an ice storm. I'd watch the idiots attempt to descend Queen Anne Blvd. and would pinball down the street hitting parked cars the whole way down.

We moved from the Chicago area to Mercer Island (just outside Seattle) where we lived for 10 years. I'll never forget our first winter there. One day we were in a small restaurant in Seattle's University District and a few snowflakes began falling outside.

Somebody shouted "It's snowing!" and within 30 seconds the restaurant was empty 'cause all the customers had rushed outside to experience snow. Having lived through 35-odd Chicago winters by that time, we just kept on eating our dinner. Like something out of Seinfeld.

So true. I'm a NH native so it was funny to watch people freak when the conditions got snowy or icy.

The twist in that seat is unacceptable. It's so twisted to the right, only Sarah Palin would be comfortable.

After years of ownership I learned to respect the '80s german engineering.

My story:

I wanted to make the first car as modern, as it can be.

I wanted the second car, as original, as it can be.

Now this is the third. ;)
Good for you. I don't understand your point though.

Vlad is my 4th 80's vintage German car. I have deep respect for German engineering. But I am not blinded into believing they got everything right.

Are you arguing the torpedo style fuses are superior to blade style?
every thing about an e28 is superior to all. i hate the fuses in my e36 its impossible to see if one is blown in the dark. ive herd stories about using sheet metal to make diy torpedo fuses on the side of the road too. letting broke ass hippys drive their broke ass car.

Oh, I'm quite the expert on fixing twist. See my interior update thread. The problem is the seat frame of this seat is twisted (the seat was twisted hard outside of a car, and that actually bent the frame). I was unable to see how much the rear was twisted when I had it out of the car because of this.

Fixing it now that I know how much it is twisted by will be simple as pie; but will have to wait until the seats come out again.

I'm against the idea of using RSs for snows too. If not damage to the wheel, the bolts will look poor. Not to mention they're staggered. I'd use the style 8s with some 205/55 snows and call it good. Of course now that I said it, you will buy some staggered nokian hakkapeliittas immediately.
It's really too bad Chris has unsubscribed from this thread. He'll miss this:

I made the call. I'm NOT going to be using the BBS RS for winter and instead will be using my BBS RX. I ordered 4 Nokian Hakapelittas R2s in 205/55R16.

I'll be selling my 225/50R16 Contis (or keeping them for when I find another two BBS RS006 wheels <g>).

Yes, Chris - your mention of the Nokian's reminded me of them. Thanks! :-)

My wheel guy suggested I buy them at www.tiresbyweb.com. First time I've shopped there. Nice to see they don't charge shipping!

I posted this in the parts wanted section, but putting it here to extend the reach:

WTBorB: 059 Miller MAF chip - JUST THE CHIP

'B' as in Buy or Borrow.

I have a used Miller MAF with 179 chip I bought for my M30B35 project.

I also have a spare 059 ECU with a 28 pin chip socket.

Before I finish up the B35 I want to make 100% sure this used MAF works.

Since I also plan on putting my car on a dyno BEFORE I pull the B34 out of it, I figure it would be fun to do a before/after on the B34 and see what difference the MAF makes without changing anything else.

Miller doesn't list the 059 chip for sale independently, so I have no idea what it would cost. I've sent them mail asking.

In the meantime, I figured someone here might have a 059 Miller chip lying around that they'd be willing to sell for a song or lend (since I will only be using it until the M35 is installed).

Email ckindel @ gmail.com. No PMs please.

Charlie,

You can't just plug in the miller chip, you also need to change some wires around in the ECU plug. I can't remember what the exact changes were, but miller provided instructions and a special tool to pull the wires from the plug so they can be moved to a different location (pin number) within the plug.

Yea, I'm aware of that. For a B34 it's pretty simple. I figured I could do it in a reversible way.

I, for one, am interested in seeing what the power difference between the AFM and MAF will be, with no other changes. Thanks for taking this on.

I have the gen III Miller Maf and War Chip. I didnt like the idea of opening the ECU plug. So we jumped the ciruct on the ECU instead. That way you can switch back to stock at any time.
I have good photos If you need them.

Is there a Zinno E34? I wasn't aware that there was:

That may explain your search results.

Actually the more likely reason my photos rank so high in Google organic results for e34 is my E34 M-Sport website which also links to my Flickr collection. That page has tons of inbound links.

Is it odd that I just re-read the entirety of my own thread?

I was recovering from my post-turkey-dinner-coma, trying to remember something I wanted to look up and figured looking at some of my posts/pics would jog my memory. It didn't; I still can't remember what I wanted to look up. But I got sucked in reviewing the adventure so far.

That's actually pretty cool. Nothing wrong with enjoying all the posts once more! Bummer you couldn't remember what it was you were originally looking for though. :D

In fact, there is :) Although it seems that most people tend to call it Cinnabar red, which is actually Zinnoberrot. I guess people just got a little confused in the early 90's. lol

See the link in my sig for photos...says Zinno on the fender well even.

Not my day, I guess.

The job was to replace the heater control valve on Vlad.

Step one: Remove coolant tank cap. It came apart in my hand.
Image

Step two: Pull out HCV and disassemble it. The old solenoid was in kinda tight. Pulling it out caused the coil actuator to come apart in my hand.

Image

This really sucks.

I guess this will be going on until I can find a new HCV. I'm tempted just to buy a brand new one given the word is these $17 rebuild kits only last a year or so...
