e28 Touring Kit - Donde Esta?

I know that some of the e28 Tourings were a result of an aftermarket kit. I am just curious if any of these kits still exist or if anyone has heard of any of them existing since the late 1980s. If so, yes I am interested in one.

Read about it on the interwebs and a respected board member kind of confirmed it. I believe that is was described as a kit that could be installed (usually shoddily) to convert the rear to a hatchback.

The camper does not a Touring make.

QFT.
The E28 tourings were done by custom coach builders. That thing is a camper shell.

C'mon guys, lighten up. A shell over the trunk area is not a touring, but don't bust the guys balls over it. It kind of looks like it even though it's not.

So is this part of the brainstorm on what to do with the rear-ended M535i? Don't or I'll have Sherman repossess that puppy and I'll buy it.
But making a proper touring out of it... Like this...
That would garner some serious respect.
(from me anyway!)

I know what the proper tourings looked like, but since I heard "kit" and "shoddy" and threw the camper pic out there, lol

I have NO desire to deal with the aftermarket crap grafted onto the E28. Aftermarket parts suck in general and a half-assed coachwork conversion has to be worse.

That is absolutely awesome! I would totally rock that, exactly how it is! If you go that route you get serious points in my book.

No I am not talking about that non-sense. I meant a proper Touring kit. Shoddy is a reference to how most of them were installed in a manner which allowed them to quickly become a rust bucket.

This.
You have to make one from scratch, or just p-chop your car for added savings and a mystique, as long as you keep the car indoors and never let anyone see the real dealio.

Research a coach builder named Schultz. You'll see it was a little more than just a 'kit', despite the longevity issues. Best of luck if you attempt it yourself.. I know I'd love to

Also, the rear damage appears to be really minor. I would like to do a repaint of the entire car at some point, and if I am going to drop that type of $$$, I may try to have any ajarness resolved at that time. At the moment, from 5 ft, you don't see any real issues. Now to find some Alpina wheels

That car was on an eBay auction a couple years back; I did
a little writeup on it and borrowed the photos from it.
And yes, it does look like there was a lot of work involved in building that car; the C-pillars were moved to the back of the car, and the back of the rear door frames were totally redone. Who knows what all was involved in reinforcing the unibody or building the hatch for it. From this photo it looks like the taillights were modified to allow the hatch to extend down to the bumper area. Not a project for the faint of heart or wallet.
The neatest bit I grabbed from that auction was this:

Sexy. I was telling Sherman last night that I think an e28 touring would be right up there with the volvo 140/240 and the w123/124 Mercedes as the hottest wagons ever made. Of course, Alfa made a really nice one in the early 1990s, but I am only addressing cars that actually run.

Ive seen a Shultz conversion and it isnt very pretty up close. They didnt modify the tail lights. The tail gate latches just where the trunk did. This makes for an awkward access to the wayback. The rear quarters look like they used a 5 gallon bucket of bondo to fair out the grafts,

Actually, after closely looking at some pics, it looks like with some e28 and e34 Touring parts, this could probably be fabbed in an afternoon, or over a weekend if you don't have experience with plasma cutters and/or welders.
