List of period correct (mostly) stereos with amber displays.

Post by Karl Grau »

This has been a work in progress for a while. There are many more to add but I figured I'd throw it out and add to it as needed. Some of these aren't technically period correct but if they are low on bling they still can make the list. :)

Excellent list! It's a long shot, I'm sure... and a bit of a push to ask, but is there any chance you have specs on how many outputs each deck has? I ask so that those (myself included) looking to narrow down an amber deck with a determined amount of preouts can make a quick search of what may be useable.

Thanks again! I vote sticky.

I'll be adding that kind of info for all of the decks I have specs on.

Wow, that is a really helpful list.

I will add the Sony CDX-5290:

I'll add the Blaupunkt Monterey SQR 23, which my 535i came with when I bought it in 1992. This unit is a direct electrical plug-in, although it has a special quick-release frame and tool. My unit didn't come with the tool, so I had to improvise with the ballpoint pen in my Swiss army knife.

I'll also add the Blaupunkt Tucson CM 84. This unit has a Unilink bus and can control external Sony CD changers. It also has an audio input jack.

Nice list Charles, clearly you have more time on your hands than I do, spare time that is. But nice list, it looks good, a lot better than all that blue crap I see around these days.

Ahh, now if only you can list a source for all of these!

I need one and having this list is a great resource.

Thanks

Very many thanks. I have a blaupunkt that came in my 535is, but it has a blue "aura" that kills the amber look at night.

I've looked around occasionally for a replacement, and usually get a salesman trying to only show the high end decks.

Thanks for providing some researched information for those of us that want / need to fix ours properly.

I suggest a stickly!!!

2nd!!!! some time down the line i've got to find one of those blaupunkt barcelona rcm104 or another similar one down the line to replace my kenwood with blue glow that looks totally out of place..

seeing the blaupunkt toronto reminds me of the time i installed my first headunit in our family's old and gone '93 t-bird. actually had a different blaupunkt radio ordered but it died within a week after installing it, and was no longer manufactured, so crutchfield sent me the blaupunkt toronto to replace it. thought the key card thingy was cooler than removable faceplates! and we had the little thumb remote too.

edit: also i'm in support of an excel formatted list where features are listed, like pre-outs (number of), aux in (the biggest thing i look for while looking for a h/u), watts, channels, etc.

thanks for compiling the list!!

I did, it was on a laptop that was stolen. I'm planning on doing it over with updated info and links to user and installation manuals. It's going to be a rainy season project though so don't look for it before next spring. :(

But we already knew that.

Might I suggest plugging the data into a shared Google Docs spreadsheet? Once it's there & accessible, people can sort and re-sort to their hearts' content, and download an Excel file if they like.

And shouldn't this thread be stickied by now? I believe it meets the criteria...
