Edit: I got a few PMs about this and some people seemed confused about fitment. This airbox comes with a short intake tube that does not have the port for the vacuum purge valve which is required on a typical B34. If you have a B35, use this tube, if you have a B34 you have to shorten your intake tube, likely by cutting off the bellows part. The middle pic shows the difference in length of the B35 intake tube with a stock B34 airbox. That's how much you'll have to shorten your tube for the B35 elbow to line up.

Thanks,
LAThat's what your new girlfriend said to me!
oh snap!

Larry, I didn't have any trouble with the mount, and was able to close the hood without any drama but it was riding against the fuel cooler. I thought this might cause chaffing problems later on (much like Matt's new g/f
) so I decided go back to stock for the time being. If I can ever get around to removing the fuel cooler I'll give it another go.

Fuel cooler - hey now, that sounds like hot rod stuff! I don't have one anyway. I have not tried the b35 air box on my 535 E28. It's the E23 735 the b35 air cleaner will not fit into. Looks like a sawzall will be needed to remove the mounting for the orig air cleaner. The sawzall however, is probably not a good idea for resolving any chaffing problems Matt may encounter with the new GF.ahab wrote:Larry, I didn't have any trouble with the mount, and was able to close the hood without any drama but it was riding against the fuel cooler. I can't answer that question accurately as I've never tried. I suspect it won't, since the factory box for that car was the same as the E28. The advantage of using this box seems to be a better looking engine bay and perhaps increased surface area across the filter membrane. Without additional mods to the motor I can't see the latter part doing much. At the risk of superfluous technical discourse, I don't really understand why the factory would increase the intake capacity on the B35 with increased manifold and port size, yet retain the same throttle body. I assume the airbox is also higher capacity but again, the TB would be perceived as a possible constriction, unless it was simply over-sized for the B34 to begin with. Or maybe the higher velocity through the same opening was the win. I dunno, out of my wheelhouse.oversteerdawg wrote:Will this fit an '88 e24 with a B35? I figure it is the same as all the plastic shit covering BMW engines for the past 20 years since form-follows-function seems to have been reversed. I like it because the stock box covers my polished valve cover.ahab wrote:I can't answer that question accurately as I've never tried.
